Silkroad Online these days...

I haven't logged on for almost a year. WoW became a little bit boring so I've decided to download SRO again and let's see how things are going.
I took some teleports and head to Jangan, which is my favourite town.
The view is not that awesome as it was before, so I've decided to head to Bandit's Stronghold which is a pretty crowded place, it turned out it used to be a crowded place because:
I didn't meet with anyone while I was running there. There used to be stalls in that place where you could just buy stuff from players who got bored during farming SP and decided to sell some goods while he is afking or something.
Of course I took the teleport to Donwhang to check out the stalls there. Well...
And I think I've never seen this place empty before.
wut happened to this game?:<

Kinda ironic that Joymax is cleaning up the servers and getting rid of botters, and then people complain about the servers being empty.

Probably because either Joymax is either cleaning the servers of bots or because the bots are all lvl90+.
I wouldn't really know I haven't logged onto SRO for awhile now.

there's nothing to do below lvl 80,
no pvp cos there is noone to fight,
no jobbing cos it aint worth it,
no parties cos there is noone,
no stalls cos there is no demand for any items lower than 9d,
no soloers cos of the anitbot statues and people giving taxis,
whole bunch of no's

They should at least merge some servers or something.

+10
Servers will start to fill again when people realize they are being cleaned up. Good players will return...
I wish I was able to return.

Hackshield keeps crashing.

Install Windows? How could you even suggest such a thing? lol
Well I do have Windows XP running under VMWare Server, but SRO doesn't want to run there either. It gives me an error about 'nothing being rendered'. I did install DirectX 9.0c on it, but that didn't seem to help.
I also tried installing an older version of wine, but that didn't help either.
I suppose I could dual boot. The Linux partitions take up all of my hard drive space, but luckily Linux has commands to resize partitions.
Not that I have much time to play though...

people complain about bot is cheating, but they bot
people complain about goldbot crowded the server, when they stop playing they complain again about emptyness
people complain about JM not banning bot, but when JM bans bots, they complain again about either their char got banned or one of their friend got banned
people complain about inflation but they buy gold
people complain about their account got hacked but they use illegal program
people complain the game is shitty, lack of customer service, yet they still play the game
at last, people want to be God and always have a reason to complain.

Yeah, I don't think VMware does direct hardware stuff very well.
I kept the olde version of WINE on my system too, but couldn't find anything that would run the "new" sro with the hackshield. I think Hackshield wants to connect somehow and can't.
So I had to boot into Windows, and now I haven't been in Linux for weeks except at work.

true true, on another note I'm thinking of quitting now bcoz of the emptiness and lack of players to play with, before this I always quit bcoz of lack of server slots and players to play with o.O
I honestly find no fun in grinding upto lvl 36 and still not finding ppl to party with, and its not coz of me being a chinese char either

I thought I read somewhere about direct rendering in VMWare. Maybe it was a specific version. I'm running VMWare Server 2 on my Linux box.
I posted a link in one of the other "SRO broken in wine/crossover" threads in the tech support section of SRF about what the actual issue is with hackshield. According to the bug report I found, it wasn't to do with hackshield trying to connect with a server, it was something to do with wine missing some kernel level code that hackshield is trying to use locally. Sort of like how rootkits work?
I do have a second hard drive on my system (laptop hard drive from my wife's old laptop). So maybe I'll just put XP on that.

Does this mean that if there will come a new server right now, that it will be again like in the good old days?
