Parry Ratio Clarification

According to some of my friends parry ratio is very important, but I don't see this. When I get the light parry ratio buff (lvl72 light gives +30 parry ratio buff), I don't notice any damage reduce and they hit me as if I didn't have the buff.

I remember some time back, someone posted here that the parry ratio was useless (with some proof) and that it wasn't even implemented in iSRO yet (thread was a long time ago maybe 2007ish). And then the discussion when on for a while, and I don't remember the conclusion.

So, anyhow does parry ratio buff really makes a difference?

Like for example, does anyone have the formula for parry ratio and damage reduce? ie. 1 parry ratio = how much reduce?

More parry ratio = higher chance that the opponents will hit their minimum dmg.

nah IMO it reduces chance of crit, but u can increase Parry ratio on your gear, so if ur trying to decide between light and fire, then u got more reasons to go fire, but if u have Light, max it, it may help...never rlly noticed an amazing difference when pvping, not quite sure

I guess it's like attack rating, everyone says it's "important" thought it does little to nothing.

I agree with you to some extend.

In theory it seems that it should be very important (so greater chance of dmg being at its minimum), but yet in practice it doesn't seem to affect much.

parry ratio is rly important. i pvp'd a bower, then pvp'd him again when he fixed his set's parry. difference was huge

It's important, it does effect how often you get hit at the minimum damage. The light buff isnt really of any importance. If you can get 60%+ whites on your gear and 100% blues you will be fine cuz you'll have around 420+ parry.

My usual example I use is a friend on Troy that had 460+ parry vs basically any sun play on that server, he tanked the shit out of them with ease.

The same applies to attack rating. And in any sense, if you're worried you'll fuck up your other whites/Str stats on your gear by messing with AR and PR then dont fret, 10% stones go a long way. :)

is most noticeable on wizards, example staff has 4000-4700 mag atk.
Attacking rating 80%, ur opponent has little not no parry on gear, u will notice the diff.

Parry ratio DOES make a difference.

I'm lvl 107 Light, Cold s/s nuker and i have parry ratio of 678.

When i use a trigger scroll this goes up to around 800 ish.

When i pvp with trigger scroll i DEFINITELY notice:

1. I get hit for less
2. When pvping a bower, their KB hardly ever works
3. i hardly get KD
4. most important, people crit on me considerably less.

I dont have a special formula to proove this but take my word for it, the higher your parry the better! Anyone lvl 101+ should have a parry ratio of at least 600+

u cant easily have 600+ parry without light, and it doesnt change kb, kd, or crit. only defence

It doesn't increase (or decrease) your defense either, it just makes your opponent hit towards his minimum dmg more often.

Yeah but it does not give a bonus to your defense like he said.

Think bell curve as a distribution of damage received after damage calculation. A higher parry skews the median to the left. A higher defense shifts the bell curve to the left.

The way you said it, it looked like you saying that higher parry gives a def increase bonus (like the fire/ice buff). I read it wrong I guess.
