Silkroad Addiction
I knew the difference between the paths of the orthodox and unorthodox, yet I keep straying towards the wrong road. I am a result of the poor decisions that I made through my life. Of all the choices, there were two significant events that impacted my life and brought my downfall. I been warned several times of the consequences of those choices, but I ignored them. During my first year in high school, I was a rather well-rounded student with a bright attitude. My school grades were above average and I could easily balance work and play time. However, it all changed when I made those poor decisions in grade 9: all the positive traits that I once had were soon replaced by negativity after 3 brief years.
Throughout my life, I played various Massive Multiplayer Online games, but none were addicting as “Silkroad Online”. I was introduced to the game “Silkroad Online” at the end of grade 9. When playing, my mind was instantly absorbed into the game. This was the time when everyone played, so naturally I joined.
During the summer, I lived on the “Silkroad” and slept in the mundane world. Every day, I was slaying monsters and killing players, the more I killed, the higher my level became. It all came to an end when the new semester started. I vowed to myself not to get entangled in “Silkroad” and focus on my studies. Nothing went according to my plan. Within the first week of school, I could barely keep away from the tantalizing icon of the game on my computer screen. Eventually, my addiction returned and I was clicking away, ignoring the piles of assignments and homework. Surprisingly at first, my marks did not drop even though I neglected to study until the day before a test. I thought I was invincible and a true genius. However, the thought was shattered as the grades dropped drastically over the next few assignments.
The more “Silkroad” I played, the more my grades dropped. It was as if God himself was giving me warnings. My teachers were understanding and lenient. They, along with other people, offered me opportunities, but I was too busy on the “Silkroad”. I neglected those opportunities and clicked away. I was all-mighty on the Silkroad, but a failure on the real road. Even the day before the exam, I was still preoccupied with thoughts of gaming.
The results of my exams were catastrophic. My finals were poor and I was determined to redeem myself in the second semester. Inspired by the failures, I focused on school for a brief month before the addiction came back again. Once addicted, history repeated itself for the next 3 semesters. I was an abuser, and Silkroad was my heroin.
Throughout the summer before Grade 12, I was able to recollect my thoughts and finally quit Silkroad Online” . It was Silkroad that had ruined me. Through this experience, I learned the importance of studying and focusing on the priorities in life such as assignments and homework.

Re: Silkroad Addiction
Just replace everything in there with "WoW" or "Everquest" or any other MMO over the years, and it's a typical addiction scenario.
Glad to hear you are moving on.

Re: Silkroad Addiction
Good that you moved on with life
I agree that Silkroad can be kind of addicting but still... i get so irritated of the server traffic so no real addicting is possible for me
And i agree +1 to the thread-starter. Very rare to see a serious thread around here

Oh, when I read those lines I kinda found myself. I quit playing awhile ago, nice to hear you moved on and for the future stay away from MMOs

Yeah, SRO is one hella of addicting game, but I agree with CeLL, you cant blame a game just because you arent strong enough to not play it, control yourself god dammit.
