Venus has always said to be a legit haven, but there all 60+ so starting new would be difficult, but once you get up there, the legits do exsist and chinese legits are harder to find now a days IMO if you want to party and make new friends i would recommend starting a euro, less botted areas and hopefully more "players"
Hell when i was training my blader in 5d i just bought sos weps and equipt and trained over near samamarkand, less bots and dont have to worry about finding new equipt

It's real menz! I recently received special access to an alpha server for kSRO, usually restricted to the GMs. In there, they have a super advanced bot detection system. Any time a bot logs in, if they happen to get past the locked-down login server, once their character shows up in-game, a large hand comes out of the sky, like the fist of an angry god, and slams a banhammer onto the bot, squashing it into the ground. Then one of the fulltime GMs comes on to announce to the server who the character was that got banned. Most bots get banned silently at the login server.
It's pretty sweet!

Joymax I think will indeed block the clientless program, but bot will still exist.
Legit are rare.

Well they might just be starting with clientless bot bans. Then moving on to other types later. It seems like a pretty easy way to do it. Go from 2 login servers to 4 to see how it works out. Let legit clients spread among the 4 while clientless stays on 2. Then later drop the first two login servers from the client. Anyone connecting to the first two must be a clientless bot. Ban them all, wash rinse repeat, then concentrate on the player bots and the like, in smaller numbers.

... clientless cant be stopped. Nothing about a client is required to run the game so long as all the opcodes and packet info is present. Running the game without client is more stable, no video errors, fewer chances of errors in memory, and so forth.
Clientless (true gold bots) will, if anything, be the last thing to go. And the last thing to log off the servers when they shut down.

Most are at Private servers because of the higher EXP/SP rates and lack of gold bots.

Sure, maybe clientless can't be stopped, but they should be quite easy to detect if Joymax simply changes the IP address of the login servers (or at least a couple of them) every single inspection. If they have .27, .28, .29, and .30, but only have the real client using two of those... alternate between 27-28 and 29-30 every inspection, the accounts using the "other" login servers can't be legit. Then maybe sometimes they can drop 27-28 all together and create 31 and 32 or something. By the time the bot programmers catch up and reconfigure to use the real servers, the IPs change again.
Granted, that approach would require legits to stop using local DNS tricks with their hosts files or router tables to trick the client into using a different login server, but we shouldn't have to do that anyway.

This wouldn’t work either. Something within the client would have to tell the client what to connect to and what not to connect to. These would be visible to the gold bot creators. Seriously, as far as gold bots, without a GM standing and watching the actual routes they take out of town, there is nothing that can be done. They send the same packets, they are capable of seeing things like the trick you are mentioning.

they are probably just upgrading there hardware because they said they were when the servers kept crashing.

Well yes of course the clientless bots can connect to the same servers the rest of us do. It's just that it would take some time for the developers to update the bot software and get it distributed out to all the users, even if it's just a day. That's at least some time for Joymax to watch and see who is still logging into the login servers that the newly updated sro client doesn't use anymore.
Or as was said above, maybe they're just upgrading to newer hardware at Joymax.
