Silkroad on PS3

Well I know the PS3 can run Linux without any hacking so this topic is legit! So if I would put Ubuntu on my ps3 and the run wine, couldn't I run Silkroad? I am soon to try this but I wanted to know if someone has already had prior experiences with it or not.

haha sro with a controller sounds fun then again i heard the PS3 can use a mouse and keyboard so it might work just fine. The PS3 might be over kill for sro but it would work.

ununtu does not have anything on directx only wine does. it would run no doubt but could be buggy unless ubuntu came out with drives that are used for the PS3

well it might work if u get dri enable. After that it will work like any distro...the only thing is that ull have to turn effects off bcz dance makes the game hang in linux, besides that i dont see any problem.

Why would you want to play sro on a ps3 when you can play it on a computer... looks like ppl these days got too much time on their hands

I'm guessing he probably wanted to use the ps3 controller or he didn't want to run his pc all the time.
Ont: It's not going to work since you won't be able to use directX. You will have driver issues with every component of the ps3 and it only has 256mb of RAM.

This is not possible period. You make it sound much simpler than it is. Xbox360 and ps3 have more in common with older apple computers than a regular consumer pc. Their chips are made by IBM and Motorola not Intel or AMD. So it is not just an issue of graphics. But also the intended CPU. You will have to emulate an intel cpu before wine will even be an issue as wine is a self refferenced acronym. Wine Is Not an Emulator.
Were it not for the emulation issue there is no doubt the ps3 could run sro code wise easily. But as long as that one bottleneck is there it will never work. I say this as a linux user since 94. Swear on my 2 floppy pre 1.0 slackware distro.

Pro nah I still reserve the right to make mistakes but this is something I have a lot of experience with both linux and emulation. No way to do this and have it remotely playable if do it at all.

Ubuntu + VMware! Wine can be too laggy without a good setup. As far as playing on PS3, I don't know why you would want to do that when you could always just MOD a pc controller that works on Ubuntu.
