I'm on .28 in Ares, and I don't seem to be having any luck.

Test it out. Your server will either have a crowded .28 or a crowded .29. Since this was released, most ppl just picked one of those 2 servers and set it as their main in the host file. If someone wants to post over in rev6 server for me, I've tested it out several times. Logged into .28 server in 10 mins, logged back out, tried on .29 server, took a little over an hour, logged back out, logged into .28 again, got in within 15 mins, logged back out, and logged into .29 and took about 45 mins this time. I than moved onto a diff server and tried it. This time the results were opposite. .28 took about twice as long as .29 which got in within 15 mins. I'm not gonna name the server to help prevent idiots from changing all their files and just switching the ratios >_>. But yea. Test out both servers to see which is best for yours. Than just aim to connect with that one server from now on.

Spent an hour and a half on 29 trying to log in, the client was NOT bugged. I checked rev6 periodically and then suddenly I saw that the server had 40 slots!!!!!!! I restarted 3 times before I got in on the first try.

.bak file is just a backup file.
You need to choose to view hidden items option (if they are hidden).

Rename 'host smt.bak' into simply 'host'
Edit with Notepad is fine.


Since this guide is posted in public. Some gay dude is gonna tell this to the bot developpers, and then all the clientless could connect to 4 servers and we're doomed

i don't have a host even with show hidden files, it's just called hosts1.bak

No, I don't think there would be a separate login server for premium vs. regular users, considering your client makes a connection to one of the four login servers before you even enter your login credentials. At least according to that rev6 guide that was posted at the top of this thread. It said to open the client, and before entering your account info, check netstat -a to see which server you're connecting to.

As for modifying your hosts file, I'd rather just reconfigure my router to redirect all outbound traffic from .26 and .27 over to .28 and .29. That way it will work on all computers on the network regardless of OS. I use Linux for SRO, but I could just as easily modify /etc/hosts as well
