If you're not comfortable speaking English, then why play the English version?
..aren't there other versions out there?

and btw I'm not American myself, I'm Korean.
So then you ask why I don't play the ksro? cause English is my first language, and I'm more comfortable with it.

someone said, "If they can't speak English well, chances are they wont be browsing this forum often (thus not voting on your poll). Don't know what you're trying to get out from your poll though. "
but actually, as I read some guides and convos on this site, I sometimes have no idea what they're talking about.

but I know what you mean about the "in-game" convo talk; I do that too, but what I say is comprehensible.

One thing i'd like to point out about SRO though, is that conversing is very hard in this game. Unlike in the mmorpg Maplestory, it's very easy to talk with someone.

exactly, if Joymax wanted to release a "turksro" they would or a "frenchsro" they would but NO..they released a "isro" and wrote it in english. Pwning all you non english players into buying into and learning the white devil language :D If you hate America then protest joymax to release your own countries sro....if some of you third world idiots even have enough electricity to fill the servers.

English was really important 4me until started to play sro.U r expecting proper English from every sro players and blame them when they make grammar mistake(wtf). Most of native speakers r making fun of with us so we always thinking what if we make a mistake.First of all u have to understand that we dont have a chance to speak english all the time.Latin language group( i mean dutch, friench etc-if one of them ur mother language latin one is ur grandmom language) are close to english language and easy to learn for them.English is important here because u cant find a good job if u cant speak(Most of companies want 2-3 languages anyway). All my friends speak english well may be it s time to learn better english for me. :banghead:

You would be surprised if you were to compare the average American facilities with those of some "third world idiots' countries".

And on a different note... I do understand that there is a need for a universal language to ease communications in a multilingual place such as iSRO.
However, don't be such a smuck who thinks other people who don't speak fluent English (not that many people who have English as their mother tongue take the effort to type out their English in correct sentences anyway) that they are semi-retarded or kids.
Most European people speak more than one language, one better than the other ofcourse. How many Americans can make themselves comprehendable in more than just English?

So instead of whining about the fact that some people don't speak English, look into a mirror, as this is the international version of the game. You see? INTERNATIONAL =/= English only.

And to end my post: there are many Americans I love as well. Just not the over-chauvinistic ones ^^.

I always try to be polite and friendly in the game, even if I don't understand you. And that has helped me countless times.

Unless people try to scam me/other people... then I just spam their screen whispering single letters to them untill they log off

That was related to the poll you dipshit.

If you want to discuss something like this, be more objective and don't put it like english = USA, center = USA blabla... A proper poll would have been the least.

It's not the fact that this game is international and the main language is english, it is about how he "created" the discussion about it.

I'm not saying everyone in the game should have PERFECT grammar/spelling.
What I'm saying is, sometimes what people say aren't even COMPREHENSIBLE.
What am I supposed to do? read their minds?

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not being racist cause like I said before, I'm not American.

I think the reason JoyMax made iSRO english (and most likely won't make a French, Turkish, etc. -only release) has to do with the games market. I'd wager more people worldwide speak at least passable English than they do Turkish, German, French, etc.. Hence, an umbrella "international" release in the most common non-asian language. that way, it can be marketed to the US (which, by the way, is the second-largest games market outside the Asia-Pacific), Europe, and other countries.

Might be a bit silly of me but I wouldnt assume everyone on USA to speak perfect English "in-game" either

There are many who live in english speaking countries but, due to their family's primary language and cultural upbrining, stick to cultural cliques in gaming. For example a viet teen in canada has viet friends that play and in game they speak viet. Is that wrong?

Finally, iSro isn't nSro (North America) or eSro (English). The game is wildly popular in europe, expect language diversity.

we call our selves american because our country has a really lame name, its like they decided to come up with a name they just said screw it.. We more or less don't have a name for our country, the closest to a name we have is america, all the other countries in the americas have names, so we just took what was left

and by the way despite being american, I know more then english, i know french too, though my french really sucks now becuase i havn't used it much in a while, i know some german and japanese, i try to learn at least some basics in all the languages i encounter, and thinking every one here is as completly stupid as these 12 year olds who havn't taken geography yet as being the general populace of our country is just ignorance on your part. This last part was to all those saying stupid americans thinking they are the world, we're not all that stupid. As such a large country at younger ages our children don't get as much foreign exposer as many european nations do so they are not as readily aware of them in such a way.

Is it really that hard to understand some people don't speak English or speak very simple English. Do you honestly get mad when someone can't understand? You don't need to read their minds, try your best to communicate with them, if it doesn't work, just move on.

Well...I am a vietnamese.
English is my third language and I think it sucks.
There many kids , who are around 8 - 13 years old , playing isro.So they don't have english-skills.
While playing isro for a long time,I have noticed that a lot of turks cannot speak english.Sometimes I've written "english, please.",they've answered with "f** you !"etc.
Sad to hear that. But there are also nice turks.I also have turks on my friendlist. They can speak a little bit english.Well,I can also speak a little bit turkish ( My friend is a turk - reallife ).

One annoying thing is, people always assume because someone is young or English isn't his first language they're supposed to suck at it. Well I'm 13 and I live in Egypt, English is my 3rd language.. If I can speak/type comprehensible English, why can't they? :P

your wondering why people aren't all speaking english in an international game?

typical American mindset. I don't think most ppl realize how terrible the english language is. Its one of the harder languages to ever master because things are hardly ever spelled the way they sound, we don't pronounce all the letters in certain words, the same word can have 3 or more meaning, the same sounding word can be spelled 3 or more different ways, etc etc. Not to mention that most languages in the world use a different arrangement for nouns and verbs then we.....in our eyes if everything was translated directly into english it would be like talking to yoda.

So don't be surprised if ppl have bad english its only arrogance that made it the "international" language and its difficult to learn. A better question would be why can't you understand German or Spanish or Turkish or Dutch.

You guys are funny, he is not saying you have to speak perfect english to play this game. He is just saying he is so suprise that so many people play this game only know a few english words and they are not good words either. Plus they are annoying, some of the words they know like 50k please and fuc your mom. LOL!!! Besides, there are no such thing as correct english, its not how correctly you speak it but it is how effectively you use it that is more important.

First, as Joymax prepare just one version for many countries I believe that english is best option to general speaking with people that you dont know where they came from.

Im from Argentina but I been living in Europe the last 5 years and Ive travel a lot. I can speak spanish (mother language), english (Ive learn it without a teacher) and french (6 months course and then living on france for 4 months) and I understand italian (I have italian nationality but I didnt learn the language until I have an italian girlfriend :D ), portuguese (many travel to Brasil when I was in Argentina and a brazilian girlfriend in Spain  ) and catalan :P .

That I notice during my travels is that english language is best way to start to comunicate around the world, when you are not fluent on the local language. Having a langaue to interact with others cultures is great but the problem is that many times people from USA dont even try to speak the local language, because they know that people around them understand english. Once I had someone on my office from USA and I had to speak english during the sixth month that he was there. He didnt make any try to speak spanish and he was professional working on an university. This kind of attitude give a bad name to people from usa and the problem is that you find it really often and is different from other countries that have english as mother language.

Sorry for long post, the resume is that I think that speak english is best option for in-game comunication, but for people from USA you should learn to try integrate to rest of world and learn more about others cultures (Ive been called "camel fu.ker" for someone from USA that thought that Spain it was on middle-east) because you are loosing lots of things  .

This is another thing that I hate. Im american as well and the point of "americans" should be considered as a synonimous of "people from USA" is something extremly close minded, but its a point that is so deeply inside their culture that I think that they will never changed it.
