First, as Joymax prepare just one version for many countries I believe that english is best option to general speaking with people that you dont know where they came from.
Im from Argentina but I been living in Europe the last 5 years and Ive travel a lot. I can speak spanish (mother language), english (Ive learn it without a teacher) and french (6 months course and then living on france for 4 months) and I understand italian (I have italian nationality but I didnt learn the language until I have an italian girlfriend

), portuguese (many travel to Brasil when I was in Argentina and a brazilian girlfriend in Spain

) and catalan

.
That I notice during my travels is that english language is best way to start to comunicate around the world, when you are not fluent on the local language. Having a langaue to interact with others cultures is great but the problem is that many times people from USA dont even try to speak the local language, because they know that people around them understand english. Once I had someone on my office from USA and I had to speak english during the sixth month that he was there. He didnt make any try to speak spanish and he was professional working on an university. This kind of attitude give a bad name to people from usa and the problem is that you find it really often and is different from other countries that have english as mother language.
Sorry for long post, the resume is that I think that speak english is best option for in-game comunication, but for people from USA you should learn to try integrate to rest of world and learn more about others cultures (Ive been called "camel fu.ker" for someone from USA that thought that Spain it was on middle-east) because you are loosing lots of things

.

French is my parent's tongue, so english is far from being my first language too.
And I'm not from the United States, so I'm far from being USian as I prefer to call them since I always wondered why they call themselves "american" considering everyone who lives in the Americas are american

This is another thing that I hate. Im american as well and the point of
"americans" should be considered as a synonimous of
"people from USA" is something extremly close minded, but its a point that is so deeply inside their culture that I think that they will never changed it.
