I can't say about post 30, I hear bard gets more potent after 30, not sure but pre 30 I can say this...

Soloing is a major PITA, no shield and cloth, INT based and the damage isn't high enough to kill anything of equal level fast enough. Why is solo important? Many quests require it pretty much. The best option is to party until the quests are much lower level than recommended so you can manage the mobs easier.

Basically I retired my bard around 24. I also got kicked from a group once since I was less necessary than other professions. That pretty much sealed it for me. Later on in mass battles I am sure they shine.

Actually, during my last party adventure when I was clericing I regularly ran out of MP. I could have switched to bard of course, but we needed the healing and buffs more at that time. Still, for now people can manage by taking bigger MP pots with them, but I can easily see people running out of MP at higher levels if you really start to grind. Besides, that 32% damage absorption at lvl 60 (no idea what it is beyond that yet) is like wearing two extra 8D rings. You take away those rings, and see what a difference it makes. Have 2 bards in the party, and see how that extra 26% or more magical or physical damage makes a difference. Add moving march for extra movement, and confusion for group PvE fights, and I can see uses for bard. Oh, and let's not forget that nice skill to reduce aggro on party members. It allows your wizards and clerics to go full force without fear of getting attacked. As said though: they are a pure support class; I'm not impressed by their damage capabilities either.

Bards are very useful.

A split second where a Cleric doesn't have enough MP to res/heal can result in a group getting wiped.

well i have a bard sub cleric (lol i know its backwards to what most people do,all i have is lvl 2 heal, and reverse), but its kinda nice i can fight on lvl stuff now easily with noise, so long as i don't get any giants spawn, i just pick my targets horror cord then booming wave, and with the sub cleric i can just heal myself back up with my infinite mp, so i bought a stack of mp potions a while back just incase , and i havn't used 1, i have only used a couple hp ones, its perfect for grinding, since i'll neer have to use potions unless i'm against a giant, and then i just run away....... but being almost potion free has given me some extra cash

I've got a 28 or 9 bard gathering dust because I don't feel like waiting 4 hours for a pt that will let me in.
