Unfortunately, Ubuntu doesn't have a PPC download anymore. Unless you have one of the newer macs with an Intel x86 CPU, you're screwed as far as ubuntu goes.

I have tried multiple Debian .iso and none of them will get all the way through the install process. Is there another distro you recommend?

Hehe I was wondering if anyone got it working under 7.04 on Ubuntu. Myself haven't tried it because it deleted my whole partition when using the free CD from the mail... on accident. :x

@mangos: Haven't seen your post sorry. Post some screenies here.

To be blunt- YOU deleted your whole partition, not Ubuntu. Computers only do what you tell them to, at least when they are functioning properly, which means that either you downloaded an extremely messed up version (YOUR FAULT), or you did something to tell it to erase your entire partition (I assume you mean hard drive, losing a partition isn't a big deal), which again is your fault. :banghead:

Ubuntu 7.04+WINE works great, but like you said, you can't use it on a PPC. Well, the easier answer might be to say get a new computer. You could try using the search on Distrowatch.com for one that supports PPC architecture though.

FreeBSD is the route I am taking. I just picked it off of the Wine HQ website.

Alright, but just keep in mind that using a Linux OS will offer you MUCH wider support than FreeBSD. If it works for you, enjoy it, though.

Yeah, just keep in mind that Slackware based distros tend to be slightly more bent on tinkering than user friendlyness- especially I imagine for the types of people that are likely to overwrite OSX with linux =p

Remember, software is like hair- it will grow back! :D

I run FreeBSD 6.2.. Actually just played SRO on it the other day with wine, didn't really have any problems, it worked pretty good.. Here's a little advice though, unless you want to deal with a bunch of stale dependencies, upgrade your ports tree before installing any ports. This is also very useful if your current ports tree doesn't have Xorg 7.2 in it. Upgrading to Xorg 7.2 is still giving quite a few people problems right now.. It's much easier to just do a fresh install with a new ports tree.
