Yeah it sucks when you're on the receiving end of these thief spawns (and you are too low lvl to handle the thieves). If you are able to kill all of the NPCs, then why complain? Just grind on the NPCs instead of whatever mob you are fighting. You still get experience and some drops.

Yes thats what i mean...when you do to them what they do, there small
brains cant comprehaed it
