It all comes down to respect. I think Bruce put it best recently when he said...
"If you have it, you don't need it. If you need it you don't have it. If you have it you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don't need less of it. You need it to get it. And you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you don't already have any of it to begin with, you can't get any of it to get started, which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place. Do you? You can share it, shure. You can even stock pile it if you'd like. But you can't fake it. Wanting it. Needing it. Wishing for it. The point is, if you've never had any of it, ever, people just seem to know."
Respect is hard to come by. You have to work for it. It is far easier to be feared and hated than respected. So many turn to that instead. And there is no easier way to do that than play the bully.
The only reason I go in job to jangan is to go after the higher lvls that tend to pick on lower lvls. Not so much to help the lower lvls but rather to find some challenging prey. Something the prey never wants to do. They go to jangan to "pwn noobs". If I see an obvious low lvl there I ignore them till they attack. At which point I have no problems engaging them. But till then empathy is not uncalled for. They are just trying to play as well.
But in the end it comes down to this. It is a free game to play. You can create virtually unlimited accounts. Meaning that there are no restrictions on entry and no real reprocussions to frelling up. So you get an environment filled with every tom, dick, and botter. And all you can do is learn to work within the system and keep your focus. Learn the good routes and good trading techniques. Avoid the areas where the high lvls congregate. Work hard and build your character. And if you ever find yourself using the excuse "well someone did it to me once" assume yourself wrong and apologize.
Mercy and benevolence are the path to respect. If you have power people will know it. No need to show it off.
