Aye. In GMS there's this patch coming up that's supposed to completely revamp the whole system. EXP gain and item (potions specifically) are increased dramatically. Map revamps are being done; so traveling town to town is done much quicker. Party Quests no longer has a level limit which makes power leveling now viable. This patch named "Big Bang" is so colossal that it's split into 3 parts.

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
SRO imo is victim to unfair negativity as far as peoples comments and opinions go. Aside from the obvious, bots and gold farmers, gold scammers etc the game itself is really addictive and enjoyable! Ive played literally every f2p, and sro is the best by far imo. Solid gameplay, decent graphics "bit dated now lol" and allot of depth, just a shame the cons are pretty big game killers
Still, it's my fave free mmorpg!

All the hackers, botters, gold farmers, etc. aside. I can't fathom how 1/2 of your total time spent on the game is spent farming for skill points is "fun".

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
That's assuming the only goal in playing the game is to be fully farmed! But a good guild can make party play pretty fun! even if it takes 2 years to fully farm lol, and most play the game for years anyway. And anyway, being fully farmed on a 100% legit server would actually be unique, not like it is now where everyone is due to botting, its doable legit easilly imo, even just 2 hours playing a day.

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
Yes, SRO is the greatest game ever.
It has no real quests, no storyline, and half assed events. The gameplay mechanics are one dimensional, the job specialities are broken, and the class system is unbalanced.
The servers aren't regional. You cannot communicate with half the players you meet and the other 50% make you cringe because they are the type of people that are attracted to "free" games.
You have a high-end expensive PC but you still have to turn down some settings because of the poorly designed engine, even if the graphics were already outdated when the game was in beta.
Despite the botters and gold buyers, you still make it through the grind. You experience an end-game that is bare of content. You are not rewarded for your commitment (or lack or judgment) as there is no publisher or developer support and the cheaters will always outclass you.
The thousands of hours and dollars you put into capping your character make you irrational. Reassurance that SRO is a great game is needed to perpetually take the abuse you receive while playing this game.
You rely on SRF for moral support and even if you genuinely believe that SRO is a great game, you cannot sensibly argue that SRO is the best "MMO". This sense is false, your playing experience is akin to brain washing and psychological abuse.
If you think SRO is a good game, the inception was successful.

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
I think runescape is my alltime favorite. never had much more fun with any other game. i was kinda young though when I played, so maybe that's why I enjoyed it that much.
But Silkroad is also great, really had some nice times

I'll spare everybody the details. <3 SRO.

You're fully entitled to liking/loving it, you're just not allowed to say it's a good game.

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
Silkroad is a good game.
It keeps me playing. I could play DoW2, StarCraft 2, Halo 3, Reach, ODST, HL2, CS:S, DoW:S, TF2, Red Orchestra, Alien Swarm (Source Version), Total War: Medieval 2, Total War: Empire, Mind Craft, etc., but I don't.
I don't need a game that has a superb foundation (the engine) nor a game with a deep storyline. It's a fun game, therefore, a good game. Community? Management? Another story

Good by the standards of how games are critiqued, This game fails on all levels if you judge it with an unbiased eye. It can be your favourite game, or even a game you think is good, but its not actually good by any professional standards.

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
And how 'not actually good by any professional standards'?
It has updates, events, good gameplay, party and pvp for playing with other people.
Gold bots, yeah there is some in every possible MMORPG, even the mighty WoW. Gold buying is part of MMO in general, not SRO.
Bots exists in most games as well.
And well as for management, that is the biggest flaw for sure, but it was better in the beginning of the game and it tends to get better now as well with some employees responding to emails and messages on JM website. But yeah its too late for most who already quit.
Also, the thing about graphics and engine, people tend to forget this game is more than 5 years old, and it was patched over and over with new features since then. You can't compare it with games that are coming out now with all the features SRO have much better done as a 'whole' since it all comes out together (example: alchemy in SRO vs Aion).
I dont find the class system unbalanced, I dont care about storyline and quests are ok. Anyway in all MMORPG, quests always ends up the same: Kill X Amount of Y.
Imo the only things we can regret in SRO is:
- They screwed job system, which was making a great part in the interactivy between players and was giving really nice opportunities to PvP. If only they would have increased gold amounts you get from jobbing as they increased cap...
- Missing end game content. They are starting to add instances now, but really they should have put 1 each cap for a while, since at least cap 70 when grinding and leveling started to take longer.
- The time periods where the game seems/seemed out of management, left to iself. The fact that it is an International version of the game and it is run by a Korean company does not help i guess.
I think that if all this about SRO 2 is true, this should be a much better game from start. They will have all the ideas from SRO 1, and they will have time to add them not by 'layers' like it is now in SRO 1 but as a whole, combined with ideas from the others recents MMORPG. Then we might have real storyline, job system, races and classes that fits, ect.
Anyway, everyone here was once addicted to SRO, so its clear there is something special about this game. Its loosing its attraction as years goes, because RPG/MMORPG changed a lot in last few years, they are much more complete and have lot more of features than before. Keep in mind when SRO was released, you could not even do alchemy beside +ing !

Re: Is SRO Your Favorite MMORPG?
i agree with the points that you_dead-yet and dom made. sro was my favorite mmo but now it is no longer my favorite and ive playing aion for the last 14 months.
if i could add a bit extra basically yeah the sp requirement was getting more ridiculous each cap that it was impossible to farm that sp legitimately and gaymax lost so many legit players because of this. they should have made that job cave they have now at earlier caps to make it easier to farm sp. they could have also made sp rewards for winning capture the flag instead of those useless tickets, or being able to buy sp or special gear or weapons with ur job xp (i have a lvl 7 trader and lvl 6 hunter), what was the point of being a lvl 7 trader/hunter/thief again??? absolutely **** all.
Instead of rewarding players who actually played the game, gaymax rewarded academy botters with honor weapons and honor buffs. the fact is that 99% of capped players preferred to cape fight outside dw/samar and bot noobs for honor buffs instead of doing trade runs. if there are no trade runs therefore no point in being a thief as there are no trades to rob. sure everyone has a different playstyle but fact is any mmo that rewarded botters over legit players is a farked up mmo.
