Ok, I guess it's time for my solution for banning without massive chargeback:

1. Send out a warning that botters will be banned from now on.
2. Check the servers with undercover GMs (as regular players).
3. 1st offense: 1 week ban
4. 2nd offense: 1 month ban
5. 3rd offense: 100 year ban

I bet that over 95% of the current player botters will become legit after they or someone they know have been hit with that 1st offense ban and realize JM is serious this time. I doubt many will do a chargeback.

Yes, this does mean that player botters will get away with having botted so far. At least it's a solution JM may consider, because it probably will not lead to massive chargeback.

so, what if they chargebacked?
JM should just sue them, it's fraud. Trace their home adresses and write a letter, hire some lawyers, and JM has their dough in no time back :)

Considering the money made from iSRO's item mall goes to Korea, and seeing as how many player bots come from other countries where Korean law does not apply, there would be very little they could do. Again, it's not like people haven't done this sort of thing in the past.

I'm pretty sure the revenue Joymax gets from the silk sales to botters is less than the revenue they get from license sales of Silkroad Online to other companies, like the ones that pay licensing fees to operate the likes of cSRO, jSRO, tSRO, and the rest.

So yes, let them chargeback. Let Joymax crack down on the botters, lose some money from chargebacks, and gain money back in new players that decide to come back and throw money at Joymax by making new accounts and purchasing silk... as well as the money that continues to come in from license sales.

What do you think some of those who did the chargeback are going to do? It's not a one way street.

Your like 13 arent you???

Writing letter to every single botter, sue every singer botter.. from all around the world JoyMax isnt that big of a company to commit to a project like that, and they would lose money not earn.

I would understand if it was 1 person causing a huge mass amount of $$$, but its from thousands of player Joymax = Powerless.

Yep.

"Please understand that this preparation has took a long time because we have increased the accuracy of blocking massive number of bots without harming good intentioned players."

Hey, I'm all for banning bots, and I know you've been around long enough to watch them ban bots. Within a week after the ban there will be just as many gold/playerbots on the servers. I am simply basing this observation/opinion on prior JM behavior; what are you basing your opinions on?

Really, I don't understand why the anger on both sides, it's like you HAVE to be proven right. Further conversations won't prove much until the actual ban takes place.

O_o Yes, botters (on Xian at least) buy shit loads of silk, probably max each month, dunno how it is on other servers >_>

And yes "Xian sucks", no need to tell me, I still <3 it.

Given the popularity of the game itself, I think that they could ban a vast amount of botters without incurring a great deal of loss over the year. Yes, it would be a significant dip for the period, but in the long run, the popularity of the game should have no problems compensating.

Regarding charge backs, I'll say let 'em. For most provided payment methods, I believe JM is covered by their guarantees, so hopefully, they should as a merchant not have to take the full or if any cost. The interesting fact is that charge backs also ruins the credit rating for whom-ever does it. You do not need much here to destroy your future ability to gain credit cards or even bank loans. Makes for an interesting future for these people. Sadly, very few people that do charge backs realise this. I am unsure how this maps to paypal, as they are neither bank nor aquirer.

I dont think it's because of coincidence, but I dont think it's also because of your words or the fight in SRF here. Prolly it's because of the recent hack, cheat and users complaint to fix it.

After the big bot ban, the only way to stop now are:
1. close the registration account
2. remove mangyangs and every mob lvl 1-9 so they cant farm :D
3. +pot delay

Botters? Buy silk? ROFL.

All they do is use a login script, and bot. Even if they DID buy silk, they would be capped in 2 months, while a legit chinese takes longer = more silk.

Banning botters will infact make more money for Joymax, 90% of the bots are stupid dumbshits. They wont chargeback, they'll just restart their chars and bot more, buy more silk. Its like a farm, once the crops are grown, reap what you sow, and then plant the seeds again.

Ban bots, after they just bought 1000 silk to get a 100 silk bonus, then ban their accounts. Now they gotta spend $100+ on a new account, after they cant use their 1100 silk they just bought. GG....

LoL, this is a stupid post. all bots in taka these days have premium nowadays, (except the goldbots) just click on their name and you will see.

and compared to legit? bots outnumber legits 1000 to 1
and legits are more likely to be little kids that cant afford bots or silk

so i doubt joymax will ban silk buyers, probably gonna be a massive goldbot ban

and why is joymax taking action right now?
did you guys notice that with each major update joymax tends to do one of these 'bot' bans? (like the euro update, notice of bot punishment was on their website, i doubt it has anything to do with srf, they probably dont even know what srf is)
i have a feeling we are getting 90 cap soon.

I'm not sure I see everyone's hatred towards Avalon. I didn't see anything wrong with ThisIsAvalon's post. Botters often say they bot because they have a life and don't have time for this game. Truth is, in my opinion, most of them are addicted to this game, so they pay good money to be strong in this game and beat everyone else. Otherwise, why would it be so important to be full sun at lvl 80 to make the botter want to spend so much money, bot 24x7, and even babysit his bot to make sure he doesn't get caught?

Sure, the botter might chargeback, but he will likely make a new character to carry on his addiction.

Besides, Joymax gets a lot of their profit from license sales of SRO to other companies, not just from silk sales to players.

Similarly, Microsoft gets a lot of their profit from OEMs, not just from individual customers that buy their software.

That is because people were unbanned from permaban because they threatened to do a massive chargeback. If people are confronted with a Joymax willing to enforce their rules, they have a 3 strike-you're out chance to rethink their actions, and I believe that will make all the difference.

hm about the entire chargeback thing... you cant chargeback to an infinite time in past... and most players have been buying silk for long enough that they would still lose a lot of money from a banned accoutn :S so they wont chargeback anyways

True, though if it was an immediate permaban, people would at least charge back as much as possible. With a 3-strike policy, I think they are likely to take their losses, and start playing legally after their 1 week ban rather than losing their characters by doing a chargeback.

why 3 strikes? it means they can bot and be caught twice more and then stop before 3rd catch

they can only chargeback about a month and you can only spend so much money on silk per month i think... so its like $100 back and lose $100+ account or deal with it and stop botting now

3 strikes to show them Joymax means it this time, while still giving them time to rethink rather than charge back. You have to look at this from a business point of view: a massive chargeback could get Joymax disconnected from Paypal.

In my proposal, I wrote a 1st offense penalty of 1 week, then 1 month, and then permanent ban. I think most of them won't want to go for the 1 month ban.

this is a great idea indeed at least if joymax is persistent in their work not the random bans once in 2 years, but on the other side if Joymax start working on banning bots it would be even better to instant ban them each time, giving people those 3 strikes brings more work and probably even more crying towards joymax.

Well there are other payment methods you can use besides Paypal. Joymax also gets a good amount of their money from license sales - not just silk sales. Besides, maybe once things get cleared up with massive chargebacks, Joymax could maybe get their account back with Paypal.

Paypal isn't their only source of income.
