Firstly, the submitter indeed may or may not be telling the truth. Unless he returns there's really no way for us to tell. Even then we won't know for certain. I guess it's down to each of us to decide either way, but because of the lack of evidence to support either side, nobody should conclude that they are 100% right, and therefore none of us have the right to judge anyone who disagrees.

Secondly, if the submitter is lying, I'm not sure whether we'll see much of him following this post. I think certain contributors of this thread have proved that there's very little community spirit here under the circumstances. Alternatively, if the submitter was attempting to cause controversy, well, he's definitely won. You've taken the bait and added fuel to the fire.

If, however, the submitter is being truthful, then I think some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Sure, suicide is a selfish act, and I disagree with it 100%, but usually there is more to cases like this than meet the eye. To say that this person has taken his life because of a game is a very sweeping, general statement, which may only scratch the surface of the actual scenario and the complex events that led up to it. As a person who saw the most unselfish person I've ever known try to take their own life, I know exactly how circumstances can make a seemingly stable person spiral into desperation.

The internet is a wondeful tool. It allows us to communicate across vast distances with ease. However, it is extremely easy to become detached from another's situation because it doesn't affect you personally. If the submitter is telling the truth, then regardless of beliefs or morality, both he and the friends and family of the bereaved deserve our respect and sympathy. He obviously turned to us, his fellow players, for support and has received pretty much the polar opposite.

Without stereotyping, I'm guessing there are a lot of teenagers on this board. I won't preach, but it shows. Eventually, you will all (hopefully) find people in your own lives who you are close to. Whether this be family, friend or boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife. My only hope is that you don't have to experience the pain of bereavement yourself in this manner.
