Wondering about religion consideration from Joymax

There has been a post on silkroad website forum that i find quite interesting:

ill make it short, joymax removed some arabic writing because it was offending for some muslims...
Now im asking you, what about us catholics ? you are giving angel wings to whoever can pay for ? Its totally offending that a human being is allowed to have angel wings.
Noone should have angel wings except angels Its an offense to every catholic being.
And make sure ill spread the word about that Joymax is selling angel wings for money...
Normal human beings cant have angel wings.

Do i need to remind you that angel wings are only for angels and archangels ???

For those of you who didnt hear about the arabic writing thing, here is an explanation: there was an arabic writing on the clothes of the hotan ferry guy, something like [the one and almighty] but in muslim religion, this name belongs only to Allah, so they bugged joymax until they removed it.

Im not judging that, in a way, its a good thing, if it was offending for some people.. But on the other hand, muslims now have the feeling that they are taken a lot into consideration by joymax...

So here is my point: Joymax remove some writing for not offending the muslims, and now they are selling "Angel wings" to whoever can pay for them, i mean we can see a guy named Hitler with angel wings...

Well, i know this is just a game, its not reality, but Joymax started in teh first place by taking religious facts into consideration...

Please dont flame me, im just asking for opinions...

if you want, ccomparing the incident to seeing jesus' name (or making specific implications to jesus) would be more of an analogy and would be equally offensive. Even if i am muslim, i respect jesus and would find it offensive.

EDIT: for all teh people saying its not fair. If you are offended by anything in this game ...have a talk with Joymax. Also not that angel wings are called are implicit symbols...The word describing God is explicit there is NO excuse for that. Joymax can deny the other things...but the word is what it is.

The problem with that line of thinking is the concept of a mythological creature with white wings is not exclusive to Catholicism, or any Christian-based religion. Tennin are sometimes shown with feathered wings. The Etruscans had Vanths. Whoever wrote that is just nitpicking.

I absolutely agree that what the NPC had on him could very well offend Muslims, and JoyMax was well within their rights to remove it due to player objection. It served no other purpose, and was most likely put in due to someone thinking it meant something else. The wings, on the other hand, are not exclusive to and one religion.

When it comes to religion, it's best to choose your battles very carefully, lest you lose more than you bargain for...

However, art is one of the driving forces of religion. Jesus wasn't white in the modern sense, yet how many churches have massive paintings of him looking that way? Humans are a visual race. Our eyes are one of our most important senses in the wild. It's only natural for people to base belief on what they see plainly as much, if not more, than what they hear or read.

A couple of examples:(BTW cherubim were angels - there were 3 types of angels described in the Bible...but that is another topic)

lol he's got a point.....when you start putting consideration into one religion you must start putting consideration into ALL religions and thats why theres a problem now.

The Muslim image wasn't an offensive image at in the first place. Ppl should recognize that it was on found or interpreted to be offensive by a muslim and a select other few muslims. An OFFENSIVE image would've depicted an NPC named Allah who sold bomb and was wearing a 9/11 shirt. THAT is offensive. Some guy at a dock with a piece of clothing that hardly anyone has ever read which says something that may be interpreted to mean Allah among other things is not offensive by nature, only when interpreted that way.

If JM were to consider the beliefs of all its customers regarding what they find offensive and what they don't find offensive their would be no game left. I can think of tons of things Muslims. Hindus, Christians, and Buddhist would find wrong or disrespectful in the game (besides the horrible english) but none of these things are offensive by nature, nor do they give the implication that they were meant to offend. I could go into more detail about this but it would be pointless because i've found you can;t change the world with SRF post but ti think i will be sending JM a letter asking them to keep considerations of religions OUT of their decision making unless what they are considering is meant to offend or is offensive by nature....I'll probably post this int he other religious thread to if its relevant....

I agree with you mostly. Altho, I don't agree religion is the source of rape. I think that would happen to some degree regardless, although it is probably increased the possibility of rape. Most religions teach that women are here to serve men; that nature is to be exploited/dominated; and that subserviance to a "god" will get them rewards. So, basically, it's mental slavery and people are taught to be "nice" but are often more evil than they otherwise would be. Also, these people are only doing things they are told for two reasons 1) Fear of going to hell and incurring the wrath of a prick god who punishes people for behaving naturally. and 2) they want some silly fairytale afterlife where they float among the clouds with male god-like creatures (god, jesus, angels, etc) and can do whatever they want because they were "Good" in their mortal life. I mean, c'mon guys...a talking burning bush? a snake in a tree? hell, most of these stories in the bible were stolen from Pagan mythology. and no, Jesus, if he existed, was not a white guy with golden blonde hair...
