southkorea321 wrote:No, a server like that would be a total failure. How many players on a normal server? Maybe a couple thousand? Even if you say that there would be a lot less players on such a server, there would still be at most, 500. A single GM supporting that many players is ridiculous and unthinkable. He/she would have to devot 24/7 into SRO for it.
And personally, it would be boring. You would never meet new people. Or party with different people. You would play SRO with basically the same people everyday. That is definitely not the point of an MMPORG.
You must be new to private servers
Go play a couple wow servers or Lineage2 private servers and you'll find that most GOOD server owners know how to keep the player core centralized so that you actually do run into players as often as you would on official servers. Also the communities are smaller and easier to monitor.
and 1 GM? Where did that number come from? I dont think there has EVER been an MMO server (Emulated or official) with 500+ players that only has 1 GM.
Yes obviously private servers will never have as many players as the official servers. If you dont like that then I suggest you stick to the Joymax servers.
And would a private server guarantee no botting? Extremely difficult. Who would be willing to be able to practically organize over 500 accounts, even if you say there are more than 1 GMs?
Like I said, SRO is about meeting new people. And you dont grind by just meeting new people. You can become quite friendly (like with your guildmates) on normal servers. Imagine a server where you were killed by the same thieves and protected by the same hunters...wow BORING
And if people would prefer private servers because of "no-botters", then too bad. Botting is just a fact of SRO and you live with it. Botters dont harm you. They just have no life devoting their lives to pixels on a computer screen.
1. botters will take less of an intrest toward private servers
2. Have a couple gms wander around, if they see a bot the bot gets banned, making botting almost not worth it because you'll never get very far with one
3. You'll lvl fast enough on a private server i run if i can ever get the chance to get it going, that botting wouldn't really be worth doing

And as this entire idea is based off a shaky emulator, I would never risk an account on such a server. Testing stages? Past failures? What an unstable system. Who would be responsible if such a server crashed? You can flame if Im wrong, because as I know it, emulators are emulators-theyre fake-not the real thing.
And btw what are the costs of running a private server?

also im guessing this succeeds, many ppl will transfer over here, if we got good GM support and no bots. Then JM will start actually caring bout there clients and start doign soem shit about the problems of iSRO
In a perfect world, Joymax would care about their servers...
south korean brings an interesting point to mind, about accounts, hmm how would you sign up for it, and even if it could use the ones from your real silkroad account some how (doubt it can,) just make a new account so if you are paranoid that the gms of the private server would steall you log in.
I bet i'd just have to make a forum for it and have it get the users list from that

Lol, sorry, I just dont have the stamina to get sucked into a virtual world more by making another account Ive got a real world to run. And no, I probably would not sign up, unless someone(s) were able to convince me (which would probably not happen).

People keep talking about "high exp rates". Why is it that on private servers u lvl faster? Doesnt make any sense.
The admin would have whole control on the exp/sp per monster. They could make each monster worth 100x exp than normal and you'll be level 40 in a hour. This would make the server more PvP, gear, and social oriented since no one has to waste years grinding for exp and can grind when they want and enjoy high level spells and armour.

Just to add, in that setting, you really only grind for nice drops and probably gold. The focus shifts away from grinding (not that I mind though) to activities that more players enjoy

LOL thats the funniest thing ive heard all day. Everyone running around as giants
I really dont think they shrunk the character models dude they just screwed up the proportions on the buildings in constantinople. Had nothing to do with server crowding lol
OMG THAT JUST made ME LAUGH

That would be simply retarded. lol think about it. Every damn player is capped at 90 in 24 hours. Whats the fun of SRO then? And at that all those lvl 90 players packed into one server? Boring as hell.

Thats why everyone loves the idea of a private server! The entire game can be manipulated into a perfect world. There would be no bots. Everyone would have sosuns and sos. Everyone would lvl at 100x than their Joymax server counterparts. GMs would (theoretically) make it more "fun" by throwing "events".
Its a waste of time and energy. Just trash the whole idea.
I for one enjoy private servers. I can try other builds at cap and find out if I would like it in a shorter amount of time vs the real jm grind time. That would be the only reason to play private servers.

As I said before if you dont like it you can just play on regular servers. I know 99% of the SRO community would kill to go from 1-80 in 24 hours
Not to say Im gona stop playing iSRO I worked my ass off on my character but it would be nice to have a server for testing builds and what not. Or just to screw around on
You say its boring but just wait untill the modders start working on the new emulator the level cap will be increased to like 500 or whatever and then level 1000 bosses will be spawned with custom skins and shit....well probably nothing that major but ive seen some cool stuff done with server emulators.
If a Admin from SRF was in charge sure i'd support it.....but i don't think anyone else is really cut out to handle that kind of thing without letting it go to their heads

There was a game I used to play on a private server names Lineage II....i left to start playing SRO.
After a few months....the private server got sued....and had to close down....
Wont that happen to any private server running SRO? or would they treat the private servers like how bots are treated....with the Ignore factor?

That server was sued because it was costing NCSOFT thousands of dollars every month. The owners of the server were receiving monthly payments from certain members of the community. NCSOFT considered that to be selling of copyrighted property or some shit like that and ended up taking them to court. Lots of Lineage2 servers were forced to shut down by the FBI and other enforcement agencies.
Hopefully nothing like that will happen with private SRO servers.

well not as giants, lets say 60% bigger? so it actually looks liek that the buildings in the cities are made by humans, not the elf sized creatures we are now.
Still more compitition= more fun
I LOVE A PVP ORIENTED SERVER!!! Like where u could be close 2 capped in a couple of weeks, and to win in PVP, u actually need 2 use skillz, rather than huuuge pot wars..
btw, then i think they should ban auto-pots for cape war..(cape goes on, pots goes off). That way u would have 2 choose wat skillz u would do (for pure str) and it wont b "who has the bigger inventory with pots" anymore.
Idk, they should balance the SoX stuff out. As it is now, the average joe sun glaiver (who bought gold and/or accounts) will come spamming SSE + mars at me until he crits and I die. Hella fun

Just wondering ....
If it isn't, I would sign up.
the breach of contract is the people who are making the emulator, and a modded client would be too, but running the server technicaly shoudn't be, at least i never saw anything saying it was, so running my own server would not violate the liscense, may need to reveiw, but i don't recall them covering the subject
and to the guy who used big red font, of course i wouldn't charge,
at the very least i'd like to use the emulator to test out builds on my own, silkroad offline anyone?

Its only illegal if your making a profit off of the server. Which means no donations or selling stuff for real money.
I was just thinking that this idea would be good to test out different builds! Imagine being lv 80 in days and testing out every build out there. so then you can choose a good build and go to the jm servers with it and own in pvp! I think it is an ok idea. As long as people dont abuse it, which they will, and then it will be no fun. Unless it is used to test build theories like what is better in pvp?
