Joymax approves 1* Poppers?
you must suck as a player. :|
at level 30 being an int hybrid nuker I've taken out level 60 npc theives saving Moogie from certain 1* popping death
npc's are dumb and slow, as long as you can survive a 1 hit you can take out the punk.
but anyway, back on topic.
there is no way in hell freezing over of the 1* ppping stopping, no matter ho much you cry, complain or PK who done it to you, it will always be here, shrug it off, try again, grow stronger, fight them off.
it's the only thing you can do

Before I begin to get back into the topic, as I was reading through this post, I noticed that Ryoko plays magic. Awesome bro, I used to play but stopped due to going back to school and quitting my job for my studies. I still love the game of magic, and I plan on returning someday when I start my new career. Maybe we'll get the chance to meet at a pro tour event some day? I always go to pro tour Philadelphia and all its events, when I get back into the game, I'll be sure to return.
Now back on topic....
I come from a competitive gaming environment. I'm sure some of you may have heard of call of duty (the game that we played), and the CAL league (the league where the competition for online gaming is at). When the game first was released, everyone loved it. But alot of people had problems about how fast the game was. Specifically, the jumping. There was no delay in jumping, so a very quick reflexed gamer would constantly move dodging the enemy's bullets. One of the best strategies to do this was to constantly jump and duck at the same time. Before long, this move was copied by just about every CoD gamer there was. Before long it was dubbed "bunny hopping". If you didn't use the move, you complained about it, for obvious reasons of how hard it was to hit your opponent when he constantly jumped.
Before long so many complained about the move, that the developers of the game, (Infinity Ward) started listening to the community. And along came the dreaded 1.2 patch for CoD, that every competitive gamer hated, because it removed the bunny hopping move. The patch came with much controversy because how it effected the gaming community. To many, it was such a huge deal to alter the physics of the game, so late it's life (the 1.2 patch took almost 1 whole year before being released).
Not long after CoD 1.2 lost it's competitiveness and turned into a sour game of sitting in one spot waiting for an enemy to walk past. It eventually died 5 months after the 1.2 patch.
My moral to that whole story is this:
The gamers "evolved" and made moves and different tactics to win matches and games. It's just part of the game growing. As the game grows older, so do the players and eventually the come up with new ideas and strategies.
That’s exactly what happened with “1 star popping”. It’s the game and players evolving. It’s happened to me when I was a low level, and yea, it sucked. But such is life. You move on, get over it, and level up to beat the odds.
The difference here is that joymax officially supports the idea. And I’m happy for that. I’m not happy for that because I 1 star pop, I’m happy for that because Joymax officially supported its user base by making that decision.
I don’t agree with 1 star popping and when I was first introduced to the idea by impulse of XLaW, I cringed at the idea. Watching it take place was a cruel display of making a fortune at an easy expense.
However, this does many things to the game. And weather you care to admit it or not, I’m sure there is going to be good that also follows this evolving of SRO as we know it. It forces more players to level up, making the game all that much more competitive.
Whatever happens from this point, is upto the gamers. We evolve this game, it’s taking shape. How we mend and mold those shapes is exciting to watch. I’m happy to be a part of this game and it’s community.

Well at level 20 my pure str blader gets one shot by them half the time and two shot by the rest. I cant nuke so archers have a massive advantage over me as of now, and I normaly hit super high level thief NPCs for a ubertastic 6 damage when I get close enough to them.
npc's are dumb and slow, as long as you can survive a 1 hit you can take out the punk.
Maybe when I hit level 30 Ill have a chance, but as of now, at level 20, I dont, and doubtful untell I hit a MUCH higher level.
but anyway, back on topic.

it's the only thing you can do
This Is true but being hit by a 18-wheeler at 150 MPH and dieing Is true to, dosent make It any better. Things could be fixed to give, not only low level traders, but EVERYONE around that Is tired of some random NPC Thief one shotting them.
As I said before, my FIRST day that I picked up SRO some juvenile dick desided It would be funny to go Into the Water Ghost (a level what, 9 at max or some level area?) and pull out his fire ox. Out pops an assload of level 60+ Thieves and wipes out all us noobs In a matter of seconds.
This Is not right.
But It wont change because people who Traders will sit around hopeing for a fix, and buying mall shop Items. And Thieves will continue to 1* noobs while also buying mall shop Items. Joymax gets cash, and the little guy gets screwed over.
I just cant wait untell Im high enough to start fighting back, gonna be funny as hell the first Theif I back off and then toss on my Hunter suit.

I think the save-1-star system is a bit problematic.
Yes, lower levels (<25?) should be able to do save trade-runs in order to learn the system. But higher levels should cooperate with hunters and/or other traders in order to make save runs. Instead, all you see is one lvl45+ 1-star after the other. (My all time favorites being fire-ox 1-stars. How pathetic can it get?)
I dont like 1-star-popping a lot, as its mostly noobs who get hurt. But after hours watching mid/high level 1-stars passing by, i certainly understand why ppl go 1-star-popping.
@HarmonyCircle
If your harmony circle is high enough, npc thiefes will NOT attack you or your camel (Only exception being champions). They just spawn, look dumb for 10 secs, and disappear again.

Harmony circle does nothing for summoned animals. I'm not 100% certain it affects NPC thieves at all, in fact. But anyway, they would attack your horse or camel.

A few suggestions:
let NPC thieves attack only the trader, unless you attack them yourself (makes hunters not useless)
Cut the 1* safe crap... <25 is safe, over you can be attacked by Player thieves.
Maybe thieves can attack only traders around their LVL. Also stops the thiefs waiting outside Jangan, DW to kill LOW-LVL traders. This means that traders could decide to do only 1* trades around 24, then make enough money for the rest of the game, but farmers also have an adventage.
Make a trader reputation system, a legal way to pay them, I don't know, will think about that.

I played Battlefield 2 before Silkroad - and I loved the game until their removal of all kinds of tactics patch - like no more bunny hop (even though I could KILL hoppers easily, then laugh at them
Taking something good and ruining it, is not cool.
I got my ... rear end ... handed to me on a 1 star trade, sure, I got mad - said some *cough* choice words in high English ... but I got over it, learned some tricks, AND now am L2 trader - sorta on my way to L3 ( soon as I need some more money that is XD )
It's a necessity - to learn some tactics, learn where to go, how to move - take that long road nobody usually travels. It'll lead to good planning for future runs, and you'll just get better instead of stewing down there at the bottom of the noob-barrel.
What, the guy on the FireOx always sits at the middle gate of Jangan? Use the side gate! XD Spend that extra 5 minutes to be careful - DON'T BE A NOOB
People that complain about creative gameplay shouldn't be listened to - that's that.
And besides, it's only a game
You get mad when someone doesn't give you your paycheck - not when a theif on SRO steals your trade goods ( Hey, that's their job -=- to make YOUR life miserable as a trader
BUT - I do have an idea that might be good for fixing the high level traders doing 1 star -
If you're high level, doing 1 star runs, the merchant NPC should pay you less (Like L30 = -25%, L35 = -35%, L40= -50%, and so on) , you get less Job XP too. That would solve it real quick - make 1 star for high level LAME
OR ( another idea
Or even give extra bonus for just having 2, 3, 4 star runs.
Staff's gotta do something to make those bigger runs more attractive to the people that SHOULD be doing them, and the smaller runs LESS attractive to the people that shouldn't be doing them.
makisquirrel wrote:Maybe thieves can attack only traders around their LVL. Also stops the thiefs waiting outside Jangan, DW to kill LOW-LVL traders.
Would be cool to have a safe zone around the city so theif can't camp there with high-lvl NPC theif - ( un-kill-able npc high-lvl hunter patrol that attacks theif? )

Does it matter if joymax approves or dissaproves of something that is possible in game? Does anyone care?
I think that if ANYTHING is possible in the game, then it should be done at anyone's discretion..even if it's unethical. The game in and of itself is unethical as you are killing hundreds if not thousands of creatures and/or players a day.
Anyway, if there's someone popping 1 star caravans, and if higher level people think that's cowardly, then they can just escort those 1* ppl and teach the poppers to have some respect. or the noob trader should have a friend wearing low lvl gears ready to take out said popper thinking they have an easy cash. It IS the theif's job to theif..should there be limits based on ethics? nay.

Why does it even make sense for one thief to spawn more thieves? That's my question.
I got 1* popped today. Someone in my guild rezzed me and said my gear was still where the camel died, but a different thief took it before I got there. The two hunters near the thief were in an allied guild and only there to protect the thief from other thieves. It is not possible for me to be more frustrated.
1* popping it cheating, and it's disgraceful that the game makes it so easy to cheat.

the way i see it is the game is made for one star poppin'
NPC theif would rather att a hunter first a trader second and a theif last. they will run right by theives to get the trader, even if the trader is infront.
is it ethical? who cares... really...its a game. I'm not going to be banished to hell forever just because I ganked a few k off some traders.
half the time anyway theifing makes no profit. by time I buy pots, horse pots, den scroll, horse trans, and camel trans, I break even on the days events. but thats not the point, the point is its fun. which is why we play.
~FUN~
so set any little rules about morality you want.
tell me I'm a bad person for taking imaginary money from people
thats cool.
but i have fun doing it, and will continue to do it.
Basically, I do what I want.

Some people said "I dont hate thief, just 1* popper"
-People get mad about being robbed regardless of star. Don't BS me and say multistars don't.... I have robbed so many people, its not funny. I know who gets mad and who doesnt. Thats ALL of them.
-1* popper only makes you mad, because you thought 1* meant you were perfectly safe. But clearly, you are not - you havnt been safe - and even with an update, still won't be perfectly safe.
Even a trader in front of you can get you killed. Im sure thats happened too. If I was the trader, I would probobly res you. (it happened last night too) I dont thief and trade at the same time. But no one is obligated too.
The offical site said, the safest way is to take hunters.

If you don't like risk go play the Sims. There is risk in trading at every level. Take last night for example. I was looking for some quick cash to get the guild to level 3 so I figured I'd run a few one stars.
Its not a big deal for me as I can walk through the dead ravine with minimal damage to myself. So I loaded up my horse and headed out. About half way I get a whisper about poppers ahead. I thank the person and continue.
In the mean time everyone and their grandma starts whispering me. I tell them all to gimme 15 min and continue.
Then I see the popper, no biggie he's got 6 theives to deal with and is on the other side of te road (why he picked the wide area I have no idea, no one said they were smart). I get to the side and start running, then I see that in typing I've neglected my horses health, hes getting creamed, not by npc theives but by dark eyed ghosts.
I pill the horse like crazy when I notice my health, wtf 300 hp. The horse dies, the popper has noticed me and is passing me. I hit T to turn on auto pot (turned it off to cape the other night) hit confirm and I'm dead too by NPC thief.
What did I learn?
1 it can happen to anyone
2. pay attention & focus on the task at hand
3. Make sure you are properly supplied for the job (pills, pots, horses, autopot on)
4. listen to those around you
5. don't be cocky or stupid (yes I took the main road and the shortest route).
6. I really don't give a rats ass that I was popped, its part of the game deal with it and move on.

What I have lately learned about one star poppers, is that some of them present me with another opportunity to earn some easy gold. I carry both hunter and thief cards with me and when I see a thief that's out popping and he spawns more then one thief and I feel like I can take him on, I put on the hunter card, kill him and his transport, take off hunter card and restart, come back on and put on thief suit and take his shit. If done properly, I make quite a bit of money this way. Also, the name of my guild is duality, so I guess it suits me about right. I also have a 65+ friend that's always somewhere nearby incase I can't take the thieves, I just give location and he comes and gets 'em and then I take the shit and split it with him later. It's funny to see the dead thieves saying 'wtf' as I walk up next the hunter that just killed them and proceed to take all of their stuff.
Just look for every opportunity in this game.

Kind of like I would do. One time I was riding my horse from jangan to the bandit area to look for tiger girl and it was really lagging that day and I was dc 3 times and each time I saw someone loot still sitting there not touche so I said f*ck it. I got a theif card 2 trans ports and 3 theif den return scrolls(just incase I see anyone else loot on the ground). Usualy I'm a trader(more profit), It was worth 10k, I was not really hurting for money at the time, it just anoye me when I see some one loot on the ground and no one(not even a theif) picks it up.
One time when I was popped the theif have the nerver to say "Your cute", I should have responed that I was a gay guy(Which I am a girl).
