I think 220 pixels tall is too lenient:

In other words, you should be able to make a one line post without your sig stretching past the user information to the left.

As for width, 550 pixels is a good guideline. At 1024x768 which I consider the current standard resolution, anything wider than 640 pixels is starting to hit the limit on these forums. Even with a 640 pixel wide screenshot, people at 1024x768 are going to have to horizontally scroll if they have stuff like sidebars or buddy lists open. Something 737 pixels wide (yes, I'm looking at you John_Doe) is definitely too big.

Screenshot/desktop threads are even worse, especially when there are people using QXGA (2048x1536) resolutions. When you upload at ImageShack you can resize to 640x480 on the fly for use in forums. It takes two extra clicks. I think it is only courteous to do it.

When you force people to scroll SIDEWAYS just to read the thread you are just being rude. Maybe you ARE using a QXGA display and you don't notice it, but the majority of people are using low resolution displays.

ones that particularly annoy me are pics of ppls character gear with their weapon stats showing... all sloppily pasted over a white 700X700 canvas. :roll:

there has to be a limit, some sigs are okay, but my little brother threw a fit the other day over someones (cant remember who)

I've had mods ask me to remove tame sigs before, whereas other people got to run around with bullshit in theirs.

I know for a fact of one angry kiddo's signature that is directed at me, but I'm not going to throw out any names to prevent flames. It just amuses me.

My sister saw someone with a stripper lady sig and was like "Hey what's she doing? is she allowed to do that?"
