The truth about of SOS, SOM, SOSUN, +/blue item drops

Post by PureOwnage »

Ok, ladies and gentlemen of SRF I present to you, my solution to the "what monster drops "this or that" more problem. For those of you who do not know me I was known as PureOwnage on athens, and I go by a different name on xian. Due to the recent "hacking" events I will not disclouse that character name. Anyhow back on topic; I have bolded these statements for ease of reading. Enjoy! (side note: would be good if mods stickied this)

Drops are totally and utterly random! They use a function that is coded into the game that determines the probabilty of you getting that drop. For example: A sosun +9 lvl 64 glaive has a number assigned for your character, that number is 1. A function coded into the game randomly generates a number every kill to determine what drops you get. If the number your kill is assigned is = 1 you get a sosun lvl 64 +9 glaive.

Monsters of any lvl can drop a seal of star, seal of moon, seal of sun, + item or blue item. These drops will either be 1 degree above your characters degree, 1 below that degree, or the same degree [credits on last sentence to Master Wong]

There is no FACTUAL evidence that supports that 1 monster drops any of these more than the other.

There is no evidence that grinding on the same monsters at the same spot will increase said changes of getting said items.

The amount of lucky on equipment will no increase the chances of getting any kind of SOS, SOM, SOSUN, +/blue item drop.

Anyone who tells you otherwise, either
A.) Is new to the game and doesnt know better.
B.) Was told this information by person A.) or C.)
C.) Is lieing to you just to be mean
D.) Thinks they know about this game when they dont.

Thank you for your time. I hope this helps to educate the new members of SRF and the majorety of the SRO community who still believe in these drop rate myths.

Like I said, all drops are random. I have seen over 10 posts over the past month with titles and content like. Which monster drops sos the most. blahblahblah. No monster does. Hence I posted this in hopes of a sticky to end said "which mob drops so moar" posts. :D

ummm...

when i had lucky in 4 out of 6 of my gears i got a weapon drop every 10 minutes or so.

i made about 1m in a day just from crap weapon drops. I just had to test that lucky out and i guess it worked? i was only lvl 26ish at the time.

never been that lucky since i sold that 'lucky' set.
i think those 4 items combined for like 15/15 luckys.
plus my accesories had luckys too so almost 20 luckys.

im gonna try to find gears with lucky on them again to see if this was just a huge coincidence.

only 1 sos drop though. a female garm hat.

some characters do have better luck finding sos than others if you dont agree with this than you have never had a character with extremely bad luck and then one with extremly good luck my lvl 65 has only picked up 1 sos a lvl 57 armor chest and my lvl 21 character has already found 3 and my stepdads lvl 66 legit character has NEVER found an sos but his botted lvl 52 has already found 6

and before someone acusses my lvl 21 of botting none of my characters have botted which is why i dont support IP bans at all

Complete BS and Lie. SOS Drops aren't random.
For example you can farm ishade/hashade all life long but you won't get a 52 SOS Weap. You'll need to farm on Penons for that particular item. If you played SRO long enough you will know.

Only certain mobs drop certain sos, period.
DID YOU KNOW? Milly has retired!!!!

Not sure if all the information in this thread is correct, but if you could take some of the imput that other people are saying, and adding it to your thread, Pure, I think this definently deserves a Sticky in the G&T Section. It'll stop all the noob questions we get about SoS / SoM / SoSun daily.

Good work. Notice that you're on your 1000th post at the time I'm posting this, so congratulations! :)

In my opinion I think that Different mobs have different drop rates assigned to them. For example I never got an equipment drop from Maongs, but plenty drops from Bunwhangs and Dark eyes and Red Eye ghosts.
This is also proved in certain drop quests. Some have high drop rates and others are painfully slow. So I believe that some mobs will drop SOX more than others.

Its also my belief as other people said that your character has a certain amount of "Luck" assigned to it on creation. I have known of people who have gotten SOS every week they play. While some people like me only get their first SOS at lvl 67 and some probably reach much higher and never get SOS.

Getting SOS is all about drop rate / your characters luck / and being in the right place at the right time.

It also used to be a rumor that Champions and Giants chances of dropping SOS higher than normal mobs, but this I dont believe, but I would understand why anyone would think so. I think it would just apply to normal drops.

Hmmm, reiteration of the obvious. BUT - I've got a proposal. You know how you can mod source code, and how you said the random probabilities of SO? drops are implemented into code... is there a way you can maximise probability of a drop, ya think?

*sits and ponders*

........

EDIT: ALSO with that private servers phenom going around, with this in mind... you think it's also possible?

but hey, who knows.. maybe it is random but.. i dunno.. neer found one, or i can't remember anymore...

or maybe it is just what the Pet dragged in...

and that topic.. too many difficult words...

well, i have my own theory on soX drops. From wat i have notice so far, Mobs will drop the closest degree Sos. For example, bandit archer. lvl 13 mob. It will drop deg 3 sos weapons and not deg 2 sos weapons because 16 is closer to 13 than 8. It will instead drop deg 2 Som/Sosun Weapons. Why do ishades drop deg 7 sos wpns? cause its lvl 51. So it will drop deg 7 sos wpns instead of deg 6. Som and Sosun normally will be dropped by mobs 1 degree higher than the som sosun item degree. So why do those lvl 70s takla makan mob drop 8 deg sosun and som? Cause the mobs lvl is too high for them to drop sos. Thats why if u see a soX drop from mages/snipers.. its mostly sosun. U dun hear ppl getting sos from them do u?

To summarize, sos will be dropped to the nearest deg in reference to the mob. If u wan to get som and sosun of a certain degree, the mob that u must grind must be around 7-9 lvls higher. But there are always rare case where penon warriors drop 64 sos. But its very very rare. Just my 2 cents. Dun flame me lol.....

I have to disagree, drops are area specific. Certain items drop in certain areas, what is random is the stats on the item, whether or not its sos, blue, + or crap etc. etc.

I have made a few threads about it last year you might be able to dig them up.
