Did you get RSI in the course of playing SRO

Post by _Exsanguination_ »

Wikipedia wrote: repetitive strain injury (RSI), also called repetitive stress injury, is any of a loose group of conditions from overuse of the computer, guitar, knife or similar motion or tool. It is an occupational overuse syndrome affecting muscles, tendons and nerves in the arms and upper back; hence it is also known as work related upper limb disorder or WRULD. The medically accepted condition in which it occurs is when muscles in these areas are kept tense for very long periods of time, due to poor posture and/or repetitive motions.

It is most common among assembly line and computer workers. Good posture, ergonomics and limiting time in stressful working conditions can help prevent or halt the progress of the disorder. Stretches, strengthening exercises, massages and biofeedback training to reduce neck and shoulder muscle tension can help heal existing disorders.

as the quoted definition sez you could get it through repititive motion and serious stress from the muscles. and playing these games required that repeatedly pressing keys etc.

so any of you guys suffers from these disorder while playing SRO. Me for
myself is suffering from RSI because i play in a band as an electric guitar player, and playing these game has made it worse wtf. Even my anti RSI keyboard is not helping in my condition.

Anyone having the same problem or STARTING to have these disorder?
They laugh at me because im different, I laugh back at them cause they are all the same

This has also happened to me. I also play the electric guitar too, just a couple days ago I started feeling strain on my neck so I took a break from sro and from playing the guitar.
After a full day of rest and sleeping early so my body could heal. So if you are having this problem just take a break for awhile and don't force anymore stress on your body.

Nope, never had a problem.
I'm also a guitar player and I refuse to believe that you have this disorder from playing in a band. You must be one of those people that play the song 'Paranoid' and only that song for 2 hours every day(repetitive chords) and wair your strap lower than your knees because I sure dont have anything wrong with my arms/wrists/hands.

And it's not an 'Anti-RSI' keyboard that helps.. it's your sitting possition, the elevation and level of your arms

I have something similar, but injury caused over a fight, using my pc for long term of time makes it worse.

I'll be 39 this year, and I have been in constant contact with computers since I was nine. I have also played guitar since I was 12 or so.

Some days I find myself sitting in front of a computer for 12-15 hours or more, especially when I am on caffeinated programming binges :D. Luckily, I've not had any signs of RSI.

However, it is important to note that I also step away from my computers and stretch from time to time. I also take great care in ensuring that my workstations are set up for optimum ergonomics. This doesn't mean fancy keyboards and mice (although I do love trackballs), but rather making sure I am sitting in a comfy chair with good support and making sure that my monitor, keyboard, and mouse are all at the correct height.

Lifting weights, stretching, yoga, and doing some light martial arts like Tai Chi seems to help some people fight RSI.

It also seems that some people are prone to this kind of stuff, which does suck. I've known several people who have suffered from it and have tried to cure it with everything from wrist supports to surgery, all to no avail.

It is a very real problem.

Does it ever go away?

Because if not, I think I"ll stop being on the computer before I get it!

I don't think it goes away on its own, but if you're seeing symptoms of it you certainly want to rethink how you're using a computer.

After all, you don't want to wind up like this guy do you? (note the wristbrace and poor posture):

i never had any trouble, not with gaming nor with
playing guitar or whatever.
a friend of mine has it, and he has had it for several
years now and it will not go away. his hands are
weak in a kind of way. its really bad to see but it will
not make me sit behind my laptop less.

Sometimes I got pains because I spend a lot of time both playing and working on computers, but I do lots of other stuff too so I mostly feel fine. :)
