Making profit
What is the highest profit you could get from 1 star trading? This is without paying hunters.

trade runs are mainly to pvp and get job points... not for the money... lol unless you do 1 stars(which most people do). best way to make money is to grind to get elements, buy low and sell high, and theifing. XD
well, to me that is...

jobbing is worst way to make money (trading, thieving, hunting)
grinding all the way (just dont grind on blue, orange or red mobs, they tend to drop less or none at all)

I don't understand the whole "grind to make money" deal. Running a 1* at level 40 netted me around 100k profit from Hotan to Jangan. 45 min + 5% exp + 100k == good in my book. Meanwhile I grind, only get to sell elements every now and again since EVERYONE is selling elements, it is impossible when you are selling the same thing as everyone else to depend solely on element sales. Sure I make a bit of side money that way, but it takes forever to sell them all out. Every town has at least 20 stalls of people selling elements, and another 5 calling out that they are selling elements. Further, by grinding I can make maybe 30k per pot run if I get some good drops, that is about every hour, because you have to take the money you get from drops and buy more pots. Ok to do sometimes but a slow way to make money.
Go trade and have fun. Running several back-to-back trades is a good way to make money regardless of what some say. As far as your profit, a 1* is a different amount for every level that you are, so unless you say what your level is we can't say for sure. If you want to calc it up, go to the guides section, look up the amount you can carry at your level on horse or camel on the trader table, then multiply that by 3.87 (I think that is the profit margin, 387%, correct me if I'm wrong), and you get your gross. Subtract out the gold for transports, initial good cost, and pots, and you get your profit. Example: 20k of goods sold at other end for 77400 gold, minus the 20k = 57400 - misc costs nets usually around 50k. This is from DW->Jang or DW->Hotan. I don't know exactly what the profit is for Hotan->Jang.

1 * trading is not profitable b/c there's no guarantee you'll make it to next town. Even worse is if you invest time & supplies and don't make it.
If you're a gambling person, go ahead and try.
Grinding is 100% guarantee that you'll -
1 - make money.
2 - get drops.
3 - get xp (character advancement so can grind on higher mobs which drop more cash & more expensive items).
4 - alchemy items. Make stones from tabs and sell = good profit.
