Don't always belive whisper screenshots.

Post by notall »

Point of this post was to let certain people know, and others that weren't aware of, meant as no offence to anyone, that you can't always trust whisper messages and it shouldn't be taken for a proof, why? There are millions of ways of faking chat conversation through either image editing or making the client itself doing by use of some "illegal" applications.

Image

Following picture is just an example of what you must see as something that couldn't actually happen...for start, GM's don't use that kind of whisper.

I was just dissapointed today that some people who i considered as smart people or an invididual could of taken it as an 100% sure of a proof without any other facts leading towards it being truth or not, i don't really mind it, just want to explain in case of not being understood already...

I'm sure there are already many threads of this sort and i do appologize and i'm sure it can still happen to people that they get to understand things they way they are not due to simple image editing or another way of editing the text inside the client.

I don't think not having those would change the point, unless you are looking for another one. :)

I've never understood the whole "black-out my info" thing.
I've done it in my screen shots only because others do it.

People use for various things, to hide info about them, others, maybe just to look "special" or becouse of being ashamed of something, or becouse of hiding something, no other purpose i can think of really. But as it seems everyone agrees with me on this...

Why dont you just crop the chatbox? It will make the image smaller aswell - AND hide all your info!!!11

I think everyone is aware of NuBot's capability to do so, but if you haven't noticed, he wasn't telling you a GM did that, neither did i, the point was for people who didn't know it was possible to create text and make a screenshot, the thread's point isn't to prove anything besides that.

in the days of the 60 cap a long time ago, blacking out your info was a way for people to keep enemy guilds and unions in the dark about stats such as lvl, HP, etc. back then we didn't have as many character stat generators and calculators, so it was nearly impossible to know how tough it was gonna be to kill someone unless they straight up told you their lvl and stats. there were almost no +5 weapons or gear (and i think there was only 1 +7 7th degree weapon on the whole Xian server), and SoX was way more rare than it is now. there was a lot more of an enigma surrounding players than tere is now, when if you want to find out how much HP a pure str glaiver has at 76 you can just plug it into a calculator. i think a lot of old-school players still black out their info out of habit, and a lot of new-school players do it to emulate us old heads.

You shouldn't ever believe any screenshot no matter what it is, it's easy to photoshop aything you want into them, they prove nothing.

That's true. I photoshopped a screenshot once to say that I was cool, no one believed me. :(
