But if he is, im gonna whoop his butt next time, oh yeah.
lol
Thieves are spawn on player characters that are doing jobs. If he was called Thief, it was an NPC. So you wont actually find him again. Plus I wouldn't really try and kill thieves, as they will all be at least lvl 20+.
Cool, to see someone from Yeovil, my good friend is from there ^^, so we both live in the USA, but hey, it's still cool

as welsh said, its an NPC. If an actual player thief/jobless person kills you, first he can only do that when u are at or above lvl 20, and also his name will turn red. This gives him "murderer's status" . When you get to lvl 20, dont go around alt-clicking people i believe it is because when you get murderer's status, anyone can kill you and randomly get an item that you are wearing at the time. The best way to deal with this is immediately trying to get in a safe zone as quickly as possible.
From there, take off everything and put it in the storage npc, and go outside to let yourself be killed. You lose a lot of xp from dying that much.

Some other things you should probably know:
--You probably want to take a trip to Characters & Skills forum, find out what stats and skills are right for you.
-- The next time we have an event (if we ever get any) where we have monster scrolls, beware of Strong Monsters. They are strong. Getting into a nice, legit guild can also be very fun, so you might want to look out for some. You get to do guild trade runs etc. Also, there are a ton of botters in this game, just so you know.

three ways you can find that out, first is to follow your level's quests coz they make you fight mobs that are basically your same level.
second one is to look into their colors, not their actual colors, like what i did when i was told the exact thing long time ago, but look at the circle beside the name of the mob you clicked. if it;s blue, it means it;s waaay below your level and you shouldn't be leveling on them unless you have a very easy and short quest on them. if it's green, it's about two levels, at most below you. they'll give you good exp and you get to kill them pretty easily. they're ideal for questless grinds and if your int based character. white/gray ones they're the same as your level, and ideal also for leveling. they also whould be giving good drops for you as they will be of the same level and something that you can use right away. orange ones are the same as green ones, just that it;s the opposite for them. they're higher than you. grind on them only if you have good weapon and gear as they will wear you out longer and waste potions both HP and MP. drops are also known to be rare on them but if you do, they drops to be anticipated and motivates you to level up faster to be able to use them. reds are the ones that are waay higher than you ad just plain wasters of your time and effort. run waway from them as much as you can.^^
third one is to get as much experience from teh game for you to know a lot more things such as spawn spots and such.
btw, if you find a black box and it has a label Seal of star/Moon/sun. even if you can't wear it, don;t NPC it yet, or sell it to a random person. those are very valuable. post it here first so we can give you a quotation on how much it is worth.
@all: see, SRO, like all games, has bots and overworked admins and basically problems. hope his fresh view on the game enlightens us all. lol!
i'm a grateful grape

This is really important. I was lucky enough to find a SOS glaive when I was level 3, but didn't realise how much it was worth and sold it for 6k I could've sold it for 100k and been rich from the start
hahaha, that's an anti botting thing. You can buy them from the grocery dealer and you're supposed to activate them near someone who's botting and when they attack it they die instantly. I've only seen one around before, so I'm guessing the bots are smart enough to avoid them now.
