yeah. I know. Which is why your way might have been more effective, but youre actually the one doing the bad thing and sorta notifying everyone else that its there, so all in all bug report or writing a note to suta or chameleon woulda been smarter..
McCain, he (Barack Obama) said, will soon "be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten."

Bake and spin, agreed as I said the execution was way too extreme.
However imagine if thy had sold the method to a gold selling site, or what if others have been using this method for a while. Time will tell.
I'm absolutely willing to bet that others have been duping gold and/or items for much longer than this recent occasion. How does one reckon all of the gold is sold over ebay? It seems almost impossible for a legit player to have enough gold to not only support his own charecter, but to sell in huge amounts as well. This Fable clan simply did it in a blatantly obvious way. While one person might make himself 10mil here and there to support his own charecter, or make a few hundred mil every few months to sell on ebay, these guys did what? I think I read that 'with a minute of work, we were producing 500mil'...something along those lines. Huge difference.
The first thing that I thought when I heard about this? So...JM DOES have the power to actually MODERATE THEIR GAME, now why are there still so many botters....? All I've seen on this forum are complaints about bots and how no one at JM does anything, and then they come out of their shadows or their tree trunks to ban tons of innocents? Lol.
I'm sure it was a tough decision, and I am aware of how this much created gold could RUIN the economy, but I imagine they could have come up with a better solution than the one they implemented.
EDIT: I realize I didn't even answer the question directly. If Fable were ONLY attempting to show JM they've got a problem, they did it in quite the retarded manner. But it's so obvious they had personal reasons behind it. Why else go to the work of making the gold? Why else risk their own accounts, friends' accounts, and random peoples' accounts, all to prove a point to JM? It's plausible I suppose, since some people are quite stupid.
While assuming Fable did it for the good of the community and to show JM they've got a problem, I would say they did a horrible job and a horrible act. All of the TIME(time, even to those who don't treat it as such, is worth more than money) that was thrown away. People played for years to get banned for nothing.

You bought astraled-up items from CCFers. You had several members who supposedly gave up botting, but didn't give up their botted chars, and somehow that's "anti-bot". Hyori has bragged about bruting accounts. Soooooooo...
That was zexy and sound, made sound stop.
How many accnts did hyori brute? Give me a number...
Pyro wasnt in fable at the end.

Don't ask me about Hyori's leisure time, ask him. Or are you saying it's all a misunderstanding, he's not an leat haxore, just a habitual liar? Oh, and so now I should go recruit Wonton into Bakemasters because as long as he leaves a month later, it doesn't count? Stop making excuses. Nobody killed Fable but Fable. That's what happens to guilds that exist only to be the strongest, when they discover that for whatever reason, they can't be the strongest. I never sacrificed my principles to make my guild more powerful, and yes I think that makes me a better guild leader and my guild a better guild. If you think I'm a patronizing ass who's full of shit and has no right to judge you, that's your business. But 9 out of 10 women aged 18-25 prefer Bakemaster to the generic Brand X. I took a survey.

I don't know the technical aspects but still I'm willing to bet that they cannot detect bots the same way they did the fake gold. The creation of the gold was an anomily (sp) that occured in the game , so it would show up in the logs or whatever they have. A bot is operated by a third-party program outside of the game it is only controlling the character in-game and probably not doing anything out of the ordinary that would raise flags in their game logs.
500 mil out of thin air = Abnormal
character goes to grind, back to town, repot, repeat = Normal
that's why this doesn't prove anything regarding why they can't catch botters IMO

It makes me real mad how every time you ask them why, its a new reason. Last time, it was no reason. Next time, it will be botters and CCFers. When under the gun, they'll say they were making Joymax aware of the problem.
It makes me real mad how they think they 'didnt cheat or doing anything wrong'. I would think duping 25 billion gold is cheating by all definition.
It makes me mad when people say "you didnt lose anything, shut up".
Bannable mad. And for those people - I dont like you.
Oh it makes me mad when people say "everythings okay, you get event."
You cheated, badly.
You caused roll back.
You shut down the servers for hours.
You suck.
Im sure quick enough, they'll consol my anger with "SRO sucks anyway, WoW is so cool - why do you care?"
Expect new policies soon for the WoW humpers we have here, who cant keep WoW in off topic.

LOL! Great statistic.
Although I probably don't understand much of this, here's my thoughts:
Fable got sick of SRO (and was sick of it for sometime). Thus, they found neat trick, and decided to quit with a bang. Why hide it? You left your mark in SRO history practically. You guys are now (in)famous. I don't see why you have to make this about "botting" or "CCFers" when in actuality, its just about you guys quitting. Frankly, I'm not mad that you guys got the servers rerolled. (even if rolled back 2 hours of time I actually spent on SRO for once) Yes, you did find an exploit. Exploiting is bad, there is no hiding that nor a need to find an excuse for it. What puzzles me the most is why you guys remain on SRF trying to defend your actions when you quit the game because you are sick of it. This forum = SRO forum. It has an off topic forum, yes, but it is a SRO forum nevertheless. If your sick of everything, why are you still here. There is simply nothing to prove because your argueing against people the rollback has affected.

if you blame chaud for the rollback, you'll have to blame him for the event too...or is it thank him?
Thanks for...................................WHAT!
Thank you for..................................NO!
Ohh now your making me wish SRO never did the event. So these people can get whats coming to them.
It doesn't matter how many people something hurts, as long as we get something good in the end?

If some other guild did it, I would be happy.
So if the bot program did something to cause a roll back, you would suddenly celebrate botters as good just because we got some dumb little event?
You really ARE more hypoccritical than even I thought possible. GG Chaud, you are one of the biggest aholes on iSRO!

Too many posts i won't read but i will just answer to the title right away
Yes to a large extent it is very wrong to dupe gold to expose SRO weakness. If you dupe gold once(and only 1 person) and show it to Joymax about the bug, that's a good way of exposing SRO's weakness.
However the reason why i say it is very wrong because of human nature. They are either greedy or weird in a sense that they like to see people fall. If they die, the rest must also die. The gold dupe has not only affected innocent players but Joymax too. The unneccesary attention has caused the disruption of the gameplay.
Gold duping to bring down botters and CCFer? You got to be kidding me. Yes it helps but even innocent players are affected. Can't you say "oh that's too bad i am just carrying out my so-called-mission?" Then later it bils down to Joymax ineffectiveness of dealing with problems that lead them to this.
Part of it is true i admit. If Joymax cleared as many botters as they can, this problem may have not risen at all. People are looking for bug exploits to bring down botters for example the nuke cancel trick which no longer works. This caused more bugs to be exploited if found and later abused for self-gained or harm other people.
I am glad i can't that much. The 1 day rollback doesn't even affect me at all. But i am sad to others who got a SOS drop and lost it because of the rollback

yea thats what i meant they got busted and tryed to play it off like they meant to get busted enough said. And if they didnt want ppl to think of them this way they would have done it the right wayLixiae wrote:spins wrote:i dont think they started out with the intention to expose anything. You could expose it without getting dirty money on your main account.
Chaud stated in another thread that they did not start out with the intention of being banned. Everything they are saying about their reasons of doing it is total and utter bs. They did for the gold, plain and simple. Their greed got them caught. I hope they enjoy their bans as much as I will enjoy continuing to grind and play this game.

If that were so then you'd be justified. BUT, you're being compensated up to 7 times! You know, you can make the wish come true for yourself. Will you?

Good > Evil?
You're taking this too much solely from a moral stand point and not from a practical or realistic view point. Gold duping is not in the rules of the best conduct but rules are always being broken so you shouldn't just look at it from a moral stand point unless you're an angel. It wasn't doomsday and it didn't cause a tragedy so it is a MINOR loss compared to what will come.
Consider it the last wonder drug injection; it was against your will and it hurt, the culprit was punished, and your immune system wakes up and you will reap the benefits. Now what's the complaint?
If you think of a cancer drug injection, it's against your will and it hurt, the culprit was not punished, the system does not wake up, and you sustain even more losses -------> think of botters ccf 1*pop desuit
nightbloom wrote:So if the bot program did something to cause a roll back, you would suddenly celebrate botters as good just because we got some dumb little event?
If it got rid of botters, just as it did the gold dupe and the guilty, wouldn't you? Dumb event? Pah leaseeee
