I think you made a nice choice going to Thebes, we have a nice legit union there.

A small advice would be not to waste your tokens right away, just get a Sun weapon and that's it, don't buy gear you already have Sos gear anyway.

The yellow bar decreases with time, first 8 hours with being online you get 100% exp and 100% drops, after that you get the red bar with 50% exp/sp and half the chance of getting a drop.
After 12 hours of being online (8 yellow, 4 red) you get the grey bar where mobs stop giving you exp or drops.

Posting your ign won't be a bad idea.
So in the first week in college i went with jeans and the pajama's shirt. Didn't notice what i was wearing till after i returned home.

Do you suggest using tokens to buy SUN weapons at every degree, or sticking with SOS at every degree until 8D? I was told if you do all the quests you can afford SUN at 8D but wasn't sure if that meant you can't buy Sun at lower degrees or not.

So far I've been sticking with the free SOS blade, shield, and gear that comes at each degree. I'm lvl 16 on Thebes as well.
Missing the good times in SRO...

SRO:

0x, STR blader (Venus)
8x, INT bard/cleric (Gaia)

Personally i would suggest to go full Sos until 7D (then buy sun clothes/accessories at 8D).

I didn't really need Sun weapon till 42 (because leveling up takes too much time starting from there).

Lets start simple, theres a legit union on Thebes very active fun people, speak to Qrystal ingame he will find you a spot in a guild.

Now as for leveling as said above dont waste your tokens later you might regret it, leveling with sos is a huge boost over the old isro with normal items, sun wep wont go a miss though always helps but best to wait til 42+ when things start to get more challenging to kill.

The yellow bar is a leveling timer (think of it like that) once it gets to 0 you have to wait for it to reset the next day you can level after it hits 0 but at half exp/item drops

Lastly dont feel the need to sp farm once you hit 35 start doing FGW (35-50 1*) for your sp needs

Now i hope i answered some questions il see you ingame eventually i hope
