Yep, Gerald here again. And yes, the stupid legit player.

So I was wondering for a long time during my play of 4 years, why people botted.
Eventually I came to a conclusion. Two, to be precise.

Firstly, this is because some players are just too plain lazy to bother to hand-grind.

*Simple illustration*: "Hm...my hand hurts! And look at the bloody exp bar! One full hour and its not moved even a quarter! What a waste of time! Why should I kill my hand like those other idiots who hand-grind? I can just buy some silk and bot! HAH!

Hm...I think we can all agree thats what a botter thinks.

Secondly, it is Joymax's fault. Little experience per monster. Shitty quests.

"Kill Chakjis and collect 300 Chakji eyes."
"Hunt 1000 Mangyangs and then report to Grocery owner blah blah blah. Quest repeatable 7 times."

What??? That's just too far...
Sometimes I wonder why Joymax doesn't bother to spend 2 days to think of a quest storyline, even a rubbish one that will keep our minds entertained when we grind?!?!?!

Therefore, Joymax is a greedy company who tries to earn money by "forcing" people to buy silk and then bot. No silk bought = bot ban!

But Gerald, why are you saying this? Its been said a thousand times! Why don't you just bot?!
The reason is, I promised myself I would never cheat in Silkroad Online, and I never will. Whether it takes 2 years, or 3 years, next week I will start my objective to play legit to the cap. Nah, I'm joking. But I'm going back to Mars to make a Fire/Ice/Spear and level as high as i can legit. Anyone interested in joining/helping me let me know.

Fixing the exp/sp requirements is one thing but if they allow bots to excist in this game they wouldn't bother handgrind. I'm sure some botters will handgrind if they actually see some progress during grinding haha...

I have to partially disagree with you. I don't believe people bot because they are lazy. When it comes to entertainment nobody expect the process to be tedious. If you went to see a movie and it's taking 5 hours just to build the plot anyone would start to get impatient and would like to know why its taking this long. And if there was a way for them to speed up the process they would. SRO is suppose to be entertaining...and as you so adequately said.... it is not with all its boring quest and ridiculous exp requirements. The most natural thing for most players to do is to quit once they discover this. But if there is a way to still be entertained while omitting the tediousness (ie bot) they will. Its not because they are lazy but its because in matters of being entertained..... tediousness and working hard just to be entertained is counter-intuitive.



I'm not saying that you can't be entertained as you level up. You can but the process takes so long that you start to see your friends slowly drifting away because of the boredom. Soon you find yourself playing alone. Don't expect everybody to be as patient as you are. Its hard staring at the wall for hours without wanting to see what else is in the room. Its natural human behavior. We need variety. SRO has some variety but it is separated by months of effort. When we go the theater, we go to sit and watch a movie and enjoy it. We don't go to spend 5-6 months in the line waiting to see it. This is why I blame Joymax for SRO's troubles. It all has to do with how the game is designed. Most botters bot with the intention of "I'll see you at the cap when I get there. We'll own the server together and no one can touch us" Maybe if the journey to the cap was less tedious these players wouldn't need to bot.

players bot because they "can", gold/sun..,,,has nothing to do with being lazy, hard to lvl. you can give a bottor a NEW char lvl 100 with 100mil SP left over and he will still bot,,,,,,if you give a botter "a," lvl. 100 char 100mil SP 999bil gold and the choice of having any sun gear/weapon that he/she wants then their is no need to bot.
as long as their IS a reason to bot, a bottor will bot imo.

I've heard that they are banning players that are using 'outgame' bot programs. So playing without a client. That must be better for your computer because you can actually play with plenty of characters at the same time. (read it on some forums, so not sure about this)

But what I actually feel is that it's true they are against bots. You can easily login plus less goldbots. So the community and everything is getting better and better. (but turks are still there!)

I have many friends that bot, most do it when they are unable to be at their computer ie working/going to school 10+ hours a day others do it because they are tired of hand grinding 24/7. The only reason they continue to bot whether being rich or poor is because they know that JM will not ban them.

Why peeople bot? Cuz evryone wanna be caped, alteast most players aiming for that. Face it, fun starts when you are caped or near that.
For normal player with decent social life, who play for like 3 max 4 hours a day, he doesnt have chance to enjoy the game and still progres in leveling.
Handgrinding, booring, no quest at all, no raids or any teamwork required.
Botters ruin community. Why cuz they are afk?
I play Jade Dynasty and we have ingame bot, called esper, and its freakin awesome. Community here is awesome and very active, servers are filled with people and whenever you need to do quest with couple people you can find them in no time, even tho we are all botters .
