Does age matter?
Re: Does age matter?
29 years young, full time job, husband to look after and still find this fun and entertaining - what better way to relieve stress of the day than grinding it out! younger leaders...older leaders...have had them all - same consensus - not age that matters, how u act that matters...most people in my server obviously lie about their age - but it all comes to light when they start talking in open chat...any sentance that starts with "your mom" and its a dead give away.

LOL, well i remember a while back there was an age thread, and a lot of people who play this game and who are on this forum are over 21...
dunno what age thread you were looking at cause the last 2 age threads i remembered placed average SRF age at like 16...
Anyway I think if your no longer an undergraduate or over 22 playing this game is kinda pathetic. I can see if you only play at night or when you have a break to kill time, but anyone who is past those limits and plays 5+ hours a day, spends on silk, and takes this game seriously needs to seriously re-evaluate their life because by then you should've started doing something with yourself and if your not doing it then, your already way behind.
Your career should not be sro, and you shouldn't put as much time into it as a full time job...and some of you do, don't lie about it. Its pathetic, immature, and really irresponsible.

Age doesn't matter. As long as my guild master isn't a spastic 13 year-old. Although.....If my guild master was 40 that might start to worry me, lol. Has anyone ever heard of a Silkroad player that is that old before?

to be able to have the intellectual capacity to put up with ; Turks, Botters & random **** who trade you for no apparent reason you mus be above the age of 16. Anything younger and they'd end up crying to their mum.
And who said its wrong to play video games at that age
If he was 40 hitting on females in the guild then yeah sure. but other than that your kidding right?

Verfo's unsubstantiated, sweeping stating about the over 21s annoyed me at first. Glad to see the sensible replies that have followed
This however, disappoints me more than anything:
I had a lot of respect for your rogue guide, and it was the first substantial bit of guidance I followed in making my first character.
So I am disappointed to hear such a ridiculous, ill-considered generalisation coming from you. Perhaps the immaturity is closer to home in your case.
You're actually suggesting that playing mmorpgs is 'pathetic and immature'.
Does that apply to all the kids who play too?
Or is it only us oldies who act like kids?
Yes, I'm in the over 21 bracket
Yes, I'm very young at heart
Yes, I buy silk for premium so I can guarantee logging in in my spare time (I can afford it; why the hell shouldn't I spend my money on the things I want?)
Yes, I play mmorpgs for quite a substantial part of my leisure time - it's my form of recreation
Yes, I have a (very) full-time job which takes up most of my day, so sro is my relaxation time
If that's pathetic and immature, I can only be glad I am so, and not confined to an armchair smoking a pipe and getting the dog to fetch my slippers, or spending all weekend fishing or on the golf course or playing bingo or......

"that old"? Sheesh. I'm going to assume you're joking...
I'm 44, my co-guildmaster is 38, we have people in our union who are 40, 38, 37, 18, 16, 14, 12...matter of fact some of them are guildies' children having fun with their parents in SRO.
As someone else pointed out, it's my spare time, if I feel like paying for silk or not, whatever. I don't play SRO every day/every weekend. I'm sure there are people who enjoy the social interaction a LOT. I don't mind hanging out with virtual friends and making new ones.
doh, forgot to address the actual topic: No, age does not matter, but there are times when inexperience with leading people HAS mattered.

Re: Does age matter?
Sometimes playing SRO is about the only adult interaction I get, outside of my job. I love spending time with my daughters (2 year old and 2 month old) but sometimes you just need that adult conversation. Sure, I could get that at a club or bar, or some sporting event, but I'm not really into those. Besides, with my busy schedule of parenting and having a full time job, it's easier, and cheaper, to log in SRO and have some fun than to pay money, and travel, to get to some other function.
Missing the good times in SRO...

Re: Does age matter?
Wow, that really shined some light on me. Would have never guessed people that age would play Silkroad. I think it's really cool, but It's just hard for me to see that I guess considering most people that age I know can hardly even install a game, lol.

You clearly have a F*cking life. You claim to have a full(very full)time job, and you say this is only for your leisure time. That does not sound you you play 5+ hours everyday and are currently Majoring in SRO. I SUGGESTED that playing SRO like a full-time Job at the age when you should have a full-time job is Pathetic and Immature. I stand by that.
and im glad you liked my guide <3

I did read your post, and furthermore I even understood it and what you were trying to say, but:
That's a pretty damn sweeping generalisation.
Pehaps you'd have been better defining your position more clearly at the outset

Don't take quotes out of context. Xemnas justified his statements and specified his target audience:
Your career should not be sro, and you shouldn't put as much time into it as a full time job
Your career is clearly not SRO therefore what he typed before does not pertain to you or others like you. No hard feelings, good day to you sir.

Re: Does age matter?
It happened again this Father's Day, which by the way was wonderful this year - bbq and family
As the day wore on I noticed one of the grandkids (Ayden is 1½ years old) getting a little grumpy and needed a nap.
He was fine but just started to cry a little easier and wanted mommy to give him more hugs and needed more comfort. He'd drop off to sleep for sure as soon as he got into the car for the ride home. His attention needs increased, he became more and more sensitive to things that would not usually bother him. He would occasionally express himself inappropriately with his siblings.
My response was to tell him, "Ayden! Quit acting like a two (2) year old." It was said 'tongue-in-cheek' much as it is here on this forum, but since this topic was about 'age' I thought I'd chip in with my 2¢ worth. It's okay for babies to think the world revolves around them, isn't it?

Thread is kind of long, didn't read other than OP, but I think maturity is what matters more than age. If you're gonna run around calling everyone a noob JUST BECAUSE then yeah it matters, because then you're just being a dick.

Agreed, age doesnt matter. There are several young people who are mature and wise beyond their years. Age is just a # ^^

College is a cake walk. I go to a higher tier university, comparable somewhere between state and ivy league in the US - I went to ALL my classes less than 10 times last term and did well enough to keep my scholarship and pass every class.
IMO, if you're 21+ you're responsible enough to manage your time and balance your obligations with fun time. When you work full time and you get home, sometimes all you want to do is kick up your feet, sit down in a comfy chair and play video games. If you're under 21 you should be studying + having a social life.
People who claim there's a "too old" age need to reflect on what those "too old" people did at their age - even though they were probably too drunk to remember.

But yeah, I was struggling with responsibilities until I was like 40 or something. Err, still am.

Re: Does age matter?
Agreed, i think everyone at any age has a right to play video games or SRO in this case. Video games provide entertainment just like TV, Sports, anything you consider fun. You play Video games as they bring you enjoyment and entertainment. Im 21 been playing video games since the commodore 64, i will continue to play till im too old to react well in games im sure. I plan many years of video games ahead, and if anyone says its immature and irresponcible ill just laugh at them. Seriously stating someones to old to do somethign is pathetic and sutpid. Have you not seen the Wii adverts? Correct me if wrong but it includes people at the age of 50+?
