Well I have Guitar Hero III for pc (have had it for awhile) but my cd cracked, I have the cd key on the back of the bookelt even thought it doesnt ask for it, the help support said it was legal to borrow a friends cd to install and use it but is it legal to use a iso?

Can't see why not other than that some people and companies actually most don't support people ripping their games which is acceptable.

well Steam lets you download the games with out having the key (or it did i think),all you have to do it buy the key after that so i don't see whats wrong.

All that matters is the cdkey. Aslong as you have the cdkey no one cares how you install the game.
Through a ripped iso or the real deal.

what?

if you download an iso, you need a program like daemon to run it.

Just burn the ISO on a disk and thats it, that will be your replacement, but make sure the ISO has nothing ripped
