Discuss books and stuff, and don't derail the thread.


The last book I read was Pride & Prejudice. Although the plot was a bit dull, it's to be expected from a love novel. I thought the characterizations were alright, and it was a pretty enjoyable story overall.

So, what books have you read lately?

Papillon, the best book I ever read.
The sequel had a little less magic in it, but was also great.

Very basically, it's a (real) story about a innocent imprisoned man, who in the end escapes.
People who know the book will agree that it's way more then that, but I have my doubts about people actually going to read a book after seeing it on a forum.

The Naked and the Dead by Normal Mailer. Just fabulous. Very deep and very catchy. Once I started reading, I never stopped.

Andrew Taylor, John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Thomas Harris are just a few good picks from my mind. Quite frankly i lost the desire to sit down and read a good book for some time now. I blame the internet's collective archive for that.

I find that the internet and books fill different niches. Internet is for quick, cheap laughs, while books are a type of commitment.

I couldn't agree more with you, unfortunatly it's that lack of commitment that has kept me from catching up on some fine reading times. Perhaps in the near future i might take another look at it, but then first i would need to find something that sparks that enthusiasm again..

Try Watership Down. It starts off a bit slowly, but I found it to be pretty damn good.

Then it's decided,Watership Down it is.

I think I can spell.

I'd have to agree that reading books nowadays with the availability of the internet and television that reading a book cover to cover takes more of a commitment. I haven't read a book cover to cover in yeeeeeeeeeeeears. It's been so long that I can't even remember the name, author, or even the plot lol.

L.O.T.R. Series
Harry Potter series
Dresden Files series (probably my favorite overall)
Eragon series (this and Harry Potter got better as you get later in the series)
Books dealing with Drizzt
Last, certainly not least, books by Raymond Feist with Pug/Milamber and/or Midkemia.

I've gotta second this. Read it a week or two ago; it was pretty entertaining.

My favorite series of books is The Belgariad by David Eddings.

For English I just finished The Great Gatsby. The book was okay, just too short and uneventful for the most part.

Books I have time invested in:
His Excellency (Biography of George Washington that I have yet to finish)
The Emergence of Man (Interesting read, but fairly complicated and long, had to put it down before school started)
The God Delusion (Haven't spent as much time on this one as I should.)
