Paid to sing

My cousins wedding is this saturday. My parents are offering to pay me along with relatives.
I am supposed to sing 2 songs in vietnamese.
Parents: $600
Relatives: $2400 estimate
=$3000
Well the thing is, i dont think it is a good idea to welcome a different ethnicity into the family this way. It has always been vietnamese weddings but this is the first interracial marriage. If we sing a song half of the people at the wedding doesnt understand, why sing it at all? Its not fair to them. You know? My cousin is vietnamese and her fiancee is mexican, i think i should sing an english song where all can understand but i dont get paid that way. Should i keep the entertainment solely for the vietnamese side of should i go with a song where at least everyone will like? what should i do? Be greedy or give hospitality?

Sing. It's showing hospitality by welcoming the other side of the family by showing acceptance.
Besides, I doubt that your families are going to be truly 'joined' anyway. We aren't in Victorian England.

My parents and uncles/aunts were really racist when i was young, but since my siblings, cousins, and i dated other races, they are starting to accept it but we can tell not fully.

Didn't mean joining as in full-out hostile or not. I meant that besides the two getting married, I doubt your relations will meet with the new relatives often enough for integration to matter.

Aren't you encouraging racism when you refuse to sing a song in the language of your heritage? It's not about whether people can literally understand what you're singing... you are what you are, there's nothing wrong with showing it to others who are different. I'd expect weddings to have elements from the cultures of the people being married.
Anyways, it's two songs, right? Not like the entire ceremony is going to be in Vietnamese.

Would it be reasonable to sing in Vietnamese and also have translations available in printed form? It might be too late to get fancy printing but it would be a nice gesture - maybe handwritten and copied?
Just an idea.

they wont hear it because they will be drunk by the time you sing... and so stuffed with food they will mostlikely take a nap, and think nobody sees it

Your relatives shouldn't be taking charge in such a manner unless they're paying for the thing.
