Well, there were several reasons behind dropping the nukes on Japan. The most obvious one was that obviously, Japaneses weren't gonna give up easily, it was estimated if US was to do close-quarter battles on Japanese soil to bring Japan down, it would have costed another 1 million American lives. The second big reason was that the Americans knew the atomic bomb was power, but didn't know HOW powerful, so they tried it out on Japan.

Where's the honor in that? And i know it would'ave taken lots of lives but is that any reason to take the lives of others? And btw, I googled this topic about the Atomic bomb and the "justifying reasons" were only in favor of the Americans. They never state any justified reason from the Japanese side (lack of point of view).

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were attacked at the order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman on August 6 and 9, 1945.

Prior to December 1941 America was a country divided. Japan had been attacking China since 1937 and worldwide economic sanctions were both in place and being used effectively.

Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan on December 7, 1941. Japanese planes hit just before 8AM on the 7th. No, the Japanese attack against Pearl Harbor was NOT in retaliation. December 7th 1941 is "The day that shall live in infamy." Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was quoted as saying, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." He is also known to have been upset by the bungling of the Japanese Foreign Ministry which led to the attack happening while the countries were technically at peace, thus making the incident an unprovoked sneak attack. It was his belief that Japan could not withstand a prolonged war with the US and that the Pearl Harbor attack would certainly enrage the US.
