The best bang for the buck in your case would be:
case with good power supply: $45
Pentium dualcore E4600CPU: $145
MSI P6NGM-L motherboard: $75
2GB RAM: $65
DVDRW: $45
750GB Seagate drive with 32MB cache: $135
GEForce 8800GT card: $195
The above totals $705 + tax
yes some of the things on the list are very general but overall what do you think? keep in mine this is in Canada for the prices.

not bad, but do u think the hd is a little over the top? unless ur really need that much.
only bad things with rigs like these are that they will be obsolete in 2-3 years.

Rig won't be obsolete. Right now is the perfect time to make a PC with those parts because newer ones just came out, dropping the price of your parts.
I'd go to
http://www.ncix.com though, I know you live in Canada and that's one of the very few places that delivers here. They're based in BC but have really cheap overnight airmail. Last thing I ordered was ram, I ordered Monday night and received it first thing Wednesday morning. They have a really nice EVGA 8800gt right now for 139,99. BC to Kitchener in under 38 hours, and it cost me 9,99 for purolator's fastest service.
I've also bought a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and a couple other things. I've paid by Visa and bank transfer and both work well.

well i'm actually having a friend build it for me using his part sources, but either then that should it be a solid rig for a while? it should obviously play css or company of heroes on full graphics with a decent frame rate right?

E4600 over the same priced and better performing E7200?
Does mobo have PCI 2.0 capabilities?
What's the full specs on the RAM?
My mobo is MSI, been working fine, ASUS I've heard nothing but good things as well though.
HD is a bit overkill unless you need to store tons and tons of media.
