12am 12pm vs noon midnight

Me and my friend are arguing which is the most common term for 12 o'clock in the day and 12 o'clock in the night. My friend says 12am is day and 12pm is night. I say noon is day and midnight is night.

midday/midnight

i dont think ive ever said noon in my entire life.

Also, tecnically midday is 12pm and midgnight is 12am. Midnight is the beggining of a new day so it becomes am and midday is the beggining of the afternoon so it becomes pm.

For me, 12 = Noon/Midday (But I call it '12'. and 12 midnight = midnight

I tend to use a 24hour clock.
Thus 12 = midday and 0 = midnight.

For your Q.
My feeling tells me that 12AM = noon and 12PM = midnight.

that's wrong.

according to my cell (which I have on AM/PM) 12PM is is like (on a 24hours based scale) 12:00. 12AM is 24:00 or 0:00.

I could be wrong, but hey, I trust my cellphone.

i just say 'ill be there at 12'

and the person (unless theyre complete retards) automatically assumes its the next 12 oclock whether it be am or pm.

but if i say "call me at ___" i always say midnight, but i say 12 for noon.
i dont like noon or 12PM, just 12 =]

btw
00:00 = 12am / midnight
03:00 = 3am
06:00 = 6am
09:00 = 9am
12:00 = 12pm /noon
15:00 = 3pm
18:00 = 6pm
21:00 = 9pm
23:59 = 11:59pm
24:00 / 00: 00 = 12am again.

dont know how any of you cant figure that out, its like counting 1,2,3.

00.01 = 0.01AM
5.00 = 5AM
11.59 = 11.59AM
12.00 = 12AM
12.01 = 0.01PM
17.00 = 5PM
23.59 = 23.59PM
24.00 = 12PM

Starting to count at 12 doesn't makes sense at all imo.

seeing how usually ppl go to sleep by the time midnight comes and wont be doing anything, i just say 12 when im talking about noon. but other than that, 12am = midnight and 12pm = noon.

i alwyas say @ 12 since only on rare occasions am i going to refer to midnight

and midnight for 12am

Dosnt matter if it dosnt make any sense. That IS the format for time.

12:00am is the starting moment of the day. When the clock goes from 11:59pm to 12:00am it changes the day as well, if your watch or whatever shows days. It makes sense then that midnight have the am since it's the morning.

Noon is 12pm, midnight s 12am.

Oh and funny thing you mention this because i had to wake up early today so i could go change one of my courses, and i set my alarm to 9am (i use my cell as an alarm), so im having i nice dream i dont remember anything about (i think it was SRF LULZ) and i kept putting it to snooze, and it got to the point where i just wanted to sleep because i was tired so i set my 9 to 12, but it was still AM. Then i wake up late and its 2:15pm and the guidence department closes at like 3pm; so im like "SHIT WTF MY ALARM DIDNT WORK!"

whoever made the format really needs a slap around the face. 0 to 11 would have made much more sense than 12 then 1 to 11.
