Laptops...
Yes, I know, two threads on one day is spamming, but actually, I need help (I know, right?)
So, for coming up school year, I want to have a laptop instead of walking around with a bag full of books. As it is easyer to take with you instead of all those damn books, loose papers, notebooks, and all that shizz you always take with you.
But then I came to a little problem:
I have no idea what sort of laptop I should take, what brand, how big the screen should be, what a normal memory on one is, and all that suff..
So yes... I'm asking for help, SRF. Especially to dutch people who are going through MBO, HBO or University, to see what's more popular here.
HALP PL0X!

Re: Laptops...
For studying you're gonna look for a fair amount of RAM memory, since you're sometimes gonna use a lot of programs at the same time, take 15' / 15.4' screens since 17' is waaaaaaaaay too big, everyone takes 15' / 15.4' in my class
A mid-range dual core processor is good enough, graphics card doesn't matter unless you plan on playing games during school

Re: Laptops...
15' is perfect, and i like the dell laptops with a high RAM, perfect for making school tasks.

Re: Laptops...
I use a Asus with a T7250 core 2 duo processor, 3 gig of DDR2 ram and some onbaord 128mb vid card which can be boosted to 896mb with the ram memory and its working perfectly
It's a 15.4 inch screen btw.
Just go to this link and insert what kind of specs you want
.
Wil je nog meer hulp, pm me maar en ik zal mn best doen om je te helpen ^_^

Re: Laptops...
i've got this asus a7t for about 2 years now
http://nl.asus.com/products.aspx?modelm ... 3=291&l4=0
i used to have an a6k before it. i love asus for their screens, the design
of the laptop and the service. and besides that, they're decent laptops and
with this one i've never had any problems. the only thing i don't really
like about this laptop is that it makes a lot of noise when i run multiple
programs. don't get me wrong, it can run things easily, it just has to cool
a lot. the weight is allright. i carried it around every day, and i'm still
alive. the bigger laptops however, the 20" ones, weigh 7.8kg. that's without
the bag, so idk if i'd carry that around each day <_<.
getting a 15.4" or a 17" completely depends on your study IMO. if you have
to work with a lot of 3d/2d modelling programs, then it's just nice to have
a big screen. i was actually thinking of getting a 20" laptop, but i'm going
for a desktop instead lol.
besides asus, i also like the sony vaio design. yeah, i'm talking about the
design of the laptop, because on the inside most of them are quite similar.
the vaio's look really sleak. if you're going to study, then also ask around
on your school if there's any discounts on laptops. a lot of my classmates
bought a laptop with "special student discount". (it was regular discount lol,
they still paid way too much for the thing and it wasn't all that good, but
you can at least ask if there's anything you can buy through your study.)

Re: Laptops...
well my laptop has 2gb ram. that was the standard like 2 years ago
when i bought it. nowadays 3gb is more and more the standard, and
4gb is for people who like to have more than others lol. and most
laptops dont run the full 4gb anyway because the 32bit OS use max
3,2gb of ram. anywho, the amount of ram needed kinda depends on
what you're planning to do with your laptop. could you give us a
couple of hints on what kind of study you will be taking etc.?
oh, and about processors, mine was one of the early dual cores,
if the core2duo was an option i would have taken that one. the
intel processors are usually a bit stronger than the amd ones.
my processor runs at 1,8 ghz, idk what the standard on that is
now.

Re: Laptops...

Re: Laptops...
You can always go for one of those fancy tablet pc's where you can spin the screen around and write flat on the screen like a piece of paper.
First thing that came up in good:

I was very close to buying a Tablet, but then. Like. People kept telling me that the practicality of the thing was way lacking. That you would be.
Pen&Paper > Laptop > Tablet

Your whole story is correct, but I have to add one more brand-name.
Alienware, but I suggest only buying that if you also want to game on it a lil and if you have enough money, because they're 2000 euro's easily.
As for the Mac laptops, tell me, how much is the cheapest Mac laptop?
Veel succes Ice

Draquis, when you go dutch, I have to throw it in a translator to see what it is in english before I know wtf your talking about..
rest: Soda, nice a laptop I can write on...
Cin: Asus?? my sis has got one, but when I measue the screen it's 14 inch, so I was like, wtf?
Or is the measring diagonally?
anyways, thnx Priam, helps a lot.. but.. how much does an Apple cost these days?
Leon, I don't really game that much, unless you mean those games you play for 5 mins and then sick of it, on those little kill-time game sites like spelletjes.nl, funnygames.nl, and that sorta thingz..
Bomb Jack <3
Anyways, Dell, good or bad? Shimrd says yes, Priam says no. who'se word do I take? It's not like I'm all that technical, so when I kill my laptop, I've really killed it, and maybe some geeks on the electronics department of my school could fix it for me, but still...
Or should I listen to Key-J Allmighty...?

o dear. well i have a 17" asus laptop.. i guess mine's a fake then?
it's not uncommon that laptop companies make laptops in various sizes.
