Linux question

whats the difference between linux and vista/xp and can you watch dvd's and look at webpages ( its for my laptop) and when you install linux does it reformat everything on your computer? :)

You can do anything with Linux that you can do with Windows, but why bother? Unless you have a serious reason to switch other than Windows being too bloated or too insecure or too conformist or too expensive, just stick with Windows. Using Linux will not get you cool points, it will not get you laid, it will not change your life, it's just another flavor of operating systems that happen to be developed openly. Chances are the only things you'll gain from Linux are a headache and a new appreciation for Windows.

im mostly wondering if also deletes everything like reformatting, cause im doing this for my parents laptop which is really slow

Linux does want to re-format everything when you install, it even wants to create silly partitions.

Of course, you can always trick it into not doind that.

Linux is a lot harder to work with then XP though, specially for your parents.
