I thought this might be an interesting read for those of you getting new computers with Vista pre-installed when you wanted XP. Basically, if you do not accept the EULA agreement when you first turn on your machine you are entitled to receive your money back from the manufacturer. Below is a link with detailed steps how some guy got his refund. =) Seems like a big hassle from just skimming through the page but if you have the time and need the money then this is for you.
huh..interesting, should get xp fast cause in the next 6 months there gonna stop selling it.

Lol, I dont hate windows, I just like using xp better than vista, maybe it changes later on, when theres no other choice but to use vista. I dont think you need a list of vista bugs, you obviously use it yourself.

yeah squirt 98 is the best and most stable windows os to date for its time.
for the most part windows has given up on vista and trying to shove it down the peoples throat and are currently working on a new os to be released late this year early next year, from what i have heard/read. so yeah

Several visual inconsistencies throughout Windows Vista are what ultimately made me give up on using it. Made a small list on my the things that really bug me when using Vista (that I can think of right now):
Spoiler!
- First off: Being invaded by balloon pop up options when I first log in. Some of these include, "New updates are available", "Windows has discovered a wireless network", "UAC is turned off", "Windows Update is not enabled", etc. It gets to me after a while.
- SEVERAL examples of more than one font being used at one time. Vista is supposed to use Segoe UI (sp?) but I recall there being various occasions where more than one font was used in one place. When you're in the Windows Setup uses one, Windows Sidebar uses another, taskbar, start menu, and other examples I can't think of right now. The fonts switch back and forth throughout the system between Tahoma, Microsoft Sans Serif, and Segeo UI. It may not seem like a big deal to most but personally, I don't like how the OS isn't consistent with font management.
- The UAC is horrible. Plain and simple. And it's two kinda of horrible as well. The first one is where you actually use it and have to go through the pain of letting Windows its okay to do something. The second one is NOT using it and having to bother closing the "UAC is not enabled" balloon tip when you log in your account. Seriously, it's just a crappy feature. Another thing- even if you have Aero enabled, the UAC is does not have translucent borders like the rest of the windows. Why?
- Maximize/Minimize effect seems incomplete. Also, when windows are maximized, they somehow become black and glossy. o,O Again, inconsistency.
- The Sidebar could be better. The experience with the Sidebar currently seems like a last minute add on from my experience.
I've used Windows for a very, very long time and it wasn't up until recently that I decided on trying other operating systems. Tried a Linux distro and it was awesome. I played for it for a while then went back to Windows XP. Then I once again grew tired of the same experience with Windows and I decided on trying the Mac OS. Stayed using Mac ever since. There are just so many small details in the OS that make the user experience much more pleasing. Don't get me wrong though, there are several things wrong with the Mac OS as well but not nearly as many as I found to be on Vista. (Examples- Using 3 buttons to take screenshots, the loud Mac 'boot-up sound' that doesn't mute unless by third party software, and really slow mouse tracking when you log in for the first time, just to name a few).
And on topic: I also think results vary depending on where you buy the computer from. Some will only refund $80 while others can go to $200 or more. Not sure who gives the most money but just a heads up if someone was going to do this.

To them, it's all about the money. If what cpinney is true, they are just trying to force us to buy a bad os (Vista) then reveal a pimped out os within the next few years.
It's like apple giving us the iPhone then showing us the iTouch or the improved iPhone.
I think they should give us like...2 operating systems to pick from with performance, and visual (most people would go with performance of course). So I don't really think that would happen.

Chase that CPU, then chase the Operating System.... Hurry, spend your money... Get that new game... oh? You need more RAM? No problem... here, we have an option for ya... My hand in your wallet is sexy isn't it?
Microsoft sold me some software (MS-DOS) back in 1981 for about $100 that allowed me to use my computer. Then, in 1985 they sold me an 'upgrade' that allowed me to use my computer. The operating system never performed as promised. Bill Gates became the richest man on the planet and later told the US Government that the world economy itself couldn't allow the US v Microsoft Anti-Trust suit to prevail.
What for Microsoft is a positive feedback loop is for would-be competitors a vicious cycle. We are expected to shell out more and more money for a operating system that fails to deliver on the promise that it will allow your computer to work. Is it unreasonable to expect a computer to be able to run software?
/end rant

squirt, use windows 98 first, your ruining it!
Vista is like windows ME, BEFORE you got it working stable. (ME was a whore, untill you spent weeks tweaking it, and then it owned). Allthough i don't think vista will own soon.
Spoke to this guy from IBM on the phone, i was like "Vista killed my inner child". He then suprisingly was like: "I hear ya man, we're all using XP here :p". loooove IBM.
