Creating my own site..

by AnemuS
Hey guys, well i was thinking alot about this, and now came to a conclusion of making my own site... Ive already choosed the hosting, plans, even 3 friends who will help me with the developing/watching the site, so being this said, seems like there is nothing left...
BUT the only problem is the content, i know this might be the hardest thing to choose, and all i wanted to ask here, is just your opinions suggestions, even tips if you have your own site...
Im still very new to all this, but ive decided that spending my time on online games is a waste of time(once again) so am trying something that i actually did before, but never could end the work, and actually was doing this just to chill.
I would be very VERY VERY thanksfull for any piece of help i could acquire here.

Don't make it too flashy, use correct grammar, and make it about something that is orginal but everybody needs.

Why on earth would you go through all the trouble of getting that stuff setup if you don't have any idea what your website is supposed to be for???

You need to give us SOME idea of what you want to make.
A good kinda site for your first website is often tutorial site. Its very easy to get traffic directed to your site through many of the very popular sites such as good-tutorials.
I ran a Photoshop tutorial website for about a year, learned a lot and gave me good ideas of where to go from there.

The problem is actually , that i have too many ideas, im too desperate whether take ONE and work on it and stay up to date, or combine few things on one site.

Seriously you always do these kind of responses, and they are annoying already.

Thats what i thought about at the start, making site with a big collection of reviews/tutorials, I will think about this one for sure ...
About the forum, well for sure there will be a forum connected to the site, and having only a forum as a site is not an option for me... For me it seems to be a very complicated..
Btw my friends did want to make the site about sex, guns, drugs and violence, tho im just not into this.
Music seems to be an option too, as i could actually post my friend's creations (DJ's)
and actually make them more popular maybe.
And of cource am trying to make a template with easy colors , no annoying banners all around, and comfortable design ... Browsing all the sites in internet for few years gave me an brief picture of what i shouldnt do .
Besides one of my friends was born in USA , and is talking perfectly on english, so im not even thinking about this problem, ive been learning english for about 4 years by now, and its not in my plan to stop just yet. :p
again THANKS FOR ALL THE RESPONSES AND i guess its right i should choose the content myself, otherwise what is the point of working on a content which doesnt even interests me...
p.s sorry for much writing and quoting =]

Anemus you have to think outside the box. What is something that has not been created but some people want? ( Besides child pron that would be sick )

I'm being serious; and, it's good advice if you want it to last more than a week.

Would be good if you actually gave the reason or a little bit of explanation why exactly,
or i could collect all the pieces you will post 10 more times and maybe combine one whole sentence.

When you make a site it's extremely important that you communicate clearly and professionally. It's the only outlet you have to let them know you're serious about what you do and that you're completely capable of handling anything that comes up. When it's a community, it's even more required. Like you, I never had the opportunity to learn English like most of the people on this forum, and it's a handicap that you have to learn to overcome either by perfecting it on your own, or making your site in a language that you're much more comfortable with.
When people see that the site is run by someone who cannot clearly express what they are trying to say, several things come to mind:
- If he won't take the time to spell check, how do I know he'll take the time to run the forum properly?
- How can I take someone like that seriously?
- Is he even capable to handle something like this, is it worth my time?
It may sound harsh, but those, among many other things, will cross people's minds when they post on your forum. For that reason, I suggest you make the forum in your native language.
In real life, people judge you by everything they can sense. On the internet, the way you write accounts for how they will perceive your intelligence, professionalism, capability, responsibility, and maturity.

No it doesnt sound harsh for me at all, just lately the sarcasm posts about everything people posts made me a bit annoyed.
Anyways thanks for explaining , besides i havent yet decided what about is the site gonna be , or even the language it will be on, so ill just take it as a tip i guess.
Btw 2 Squirt
Its very hard to find something that is not been created already, more like impossible.
Nowadays people doesnt create new things anymore, but just try to improve what already was there ...

Seriously, don't start to make a site, if you don't have content
It will make it really difficult to fill it in and stuff
Lol, I made this site:
http://www.Funktion.beBut you really need content
@dom: my site is in English, and I speak Dutch, sometimes you just need to make your site in a general language, so it's also accessable by people who speak other languages

Well as ive already mentioned, english shouldnt be a problem since we have somebody whos mother language is english and he is ready to contribute his time for the site...
Ill just start working on the design and user friendly interface first i guess, than move on picking up the content :p

Don't listen to dom. Obviously the site has to be in English. English IS the official language and larger portion of the globe reads and writes and basically communicate in English. Lately with any foreigh website you wee, you can find a English page.

Hey guys, been busy lately making the template for my site...
Anyways i just cannot think of what to add more, i was trying to make an easy , very fast , and nice looking site, tho it just looks way too empty ;( ...
Id appreciate alot if you guys check it out and help me improve the design .
http://sanokser.0fees.net/its just a test page , so dont count this as a advertisement, the only add ive placed on site was just to check how it looks like.
Anyways feel free to tell me what i should change/add/remove

What i think, is that i should choose different colors for background and the inpage , to some light blue and grey... but still , im waiting for responses ..
Big thanks in advance =]
IGNORE the logo, its my friend's work , proffesional in MSpaint... just bunch of pixels :p

He would need to be careful with moderating that.
Because if it gets popular, and you have the different fans from each genre come in, you're going to have huge fights about Rock vs Rap and etc.
Could get out of hand if not closely watched.

The common thing I find disturbing about webpages is not the content but the way content is presented. A lot of websites tend to put as much information on just one webpage. It's disturbing and not the correct way to present information, it will confuse the user of where to look for example. Important information will be missed, people will check your site more globally.
Point I'm making here is make your webiste accesible for everyone. Do not use to much flashy colors or animations make it neutral. Also don;t disply to much info let the user decide what to view at a given time, do not force information onto the user as much. Describing this just shows the reason why I like forums, simple not flashy and I decide what I want to read. Awesome!

Well ive used some easy colors there(though i still want to change them), i do not really like sites with flash involved so i tryed not to put it on my site as well :p
im trying to set up a vbulletin forum intergrated into the site it self...
Im sure setting up a new forum(as a site) will be a big challenge since there are many other forums around right now, its hard to compete with them
