You like it in the front, or in the rear?

Okay so, like the topic suggests do you like it more in front or the back. Obviously I'm talking about roller coasters, the other topic got me thinking.
I've been to Six Flags and Kings Dominion within the last few weeks, and I'm still adamant that the back of rides are better. Everyone says the front, I say the back, and for the most part with a little convincing and a bit of switcharoo between the front and back of rides I've convinced my friends the same.
So for an example of why its better, let me explain:

Superman:
# Thrill Scale (0=Wimpy!, 10=Yikes!): 8.5Extreme height, acceleration, and speed
# Type: Steel out and back hypercoaster
# Highest point (feet): 200
# Max. speed (mph): 75
# Height restriction (minimum, in inches): 52
My theory, if your at the back, you'll be going down the 'hills' much faster, as the front of the train has already reached the bottom thus is pulling you and 'the back of the train' down and of course generating speed. While if your at the front, when you start inching down the hill the back of the train is still climbing to the top, and by the time you get to the bottom the back is only just coming over the ridge, thus you go slowly down the hill and thus is 'boring'.
You may just like the front cause you like to see where your going, in that case *meow*, but tell me what you think

I have to say the middle is the best place for people whoa re scared. You feel less pressure there for some reason

i've never tried to get the back in fact i try to get as close to the front as possible. So ima front guy but next time i go to an amusement park i'll make a point to try out th eback of coasters.
BTW Kings Dominion and Six Flags are a great choice of theme parks 2 of my favorites.

Six flags is definitely not one of my favourites, Kings Dominion is in so many ways SO much better. I got a sexy lil 'Dominator, first rider' when I went too xD.
Once I'm back in the UK I can't wait to go to Alton Towers again, haven't been there for 3 years or so, and considering I used to go every year it will be nice to see whats new. Alton Towers and Thorpe Park have to be one of my favorite theme parks BY FAR.

btw Superman sucks, long lines for the worst roller coaster in the park..not cool
and Kings Dominion is the best i'll completely agree there

I dunno, I'm always with friends, and we always go in the front.
I just htink, okay, so I get a great picuture with no ugly head before me.
but I'd rather sit in the second row of a cart, you know, like a cart with four places, I'll take the second row, because my kneew hurt in the first row when the cart has got a round front...
But I'll try the back once...

The back seems to get hammered the most by my experiences, especially over the big hills, where the front drags it. The front feels a lot more smooth, though you can see a lot more and thus, may get scared.
I like it in the front and the rear!

i'd say the back. basically just because of the whiplash effect that you get on the initial fall, seems to go a lot faster rather than in the front.

well in the boats im absolutly sure that the back is the best position (there you really notice how high you actually are). on rollercoasters however i don't really now. I guess your theory is correct, but i never really thought about it. i'll try taking the rear next time i go to a attraction park.

front man, who cares about the speed.. it's like 10 mph difference, won't really notice it.
But when you're in the front you get to enjoy the falls, the loops and what not the most.

I love feeling the wind head-on on a roller coaster, so I prefer the front.(Specially in floorless rides)

the front going backwards

but on normal rides front i agree with Draquish, to get the full experience you need the G's and the most wind possible

The fun of the front is, is when you allready going down after the climb, bu aren't gaining any speed yet.
The silence before the hell

i believe its actually the same speed wise. reason is because the front slows down when it starts going up the next hill, and if the front slows down then that means the back must as well. so b4 the back even reaches the bottom of the hills where it would have the most speed its already slowing down. then again i could b full of it.
anywayz back ftw, superman is front though cus the down part you're technically in the back plus i like to actually see him when u get up there.

Wait.
If a car is going 100 kph and you're in the front you are going slower than if you are a passenger in the back?
Your face travels faster than your butt when you are running? WTH?

It's because when the cart first starts to move, it has to pick up speed, so when you are in the front, it's like "30-50-70mph!!!" But if you're in the back, it's more like "70mph!!!!!!"
If you know what I mean.
I like the front, because that just seems the daredevilish thing to do, even though I'm sure the back is better, my mind makes me think the front is better, so I take it that way.

The carts have to move at almost the exact same speed, they're attached. If they moved at different speeds, there would be a gap between them.

When a record plays, if you put a pin on it, the closer you put it to the center, the slower it will move, and the closer you put it towards the edge, the faster it will move.
Two points on the same object can move at different speeds.
But that doesn't really apply to this, my point is that, the carts are moving at the same speed, but the back gets to go down the "dip" at a faster speed than the front. That's what I meant.

It only feels like you're going faster because of the whiplash; when in fact, you're going at about the same speed. Dom and Grandpa are right.

what about..
THE DOMINATOR
ive seen commercials around here, looks pretty good.
most people like the front cuz they dont have to see 20 rows of people in front of them, and if its one of those where you're hanging in the air and the rail is on top youll have like 5 feet of space in front of you and thats it before having to stare at someones back seat.

No.
But you will be going at a different speed to the front at point A, as when you arrive at point A, the front is already at point B and during the time that the front moved from A to B the cart was accelerating. So you will be going faster at point A than the front was.

It's a good ride, been in the front and the back, enjoyed it much more in the back. Too bad I didn't get two t-shirts

opposite happens at the other end. Lets use points C and D. The front is going full speed at point C and slows down on its way to point D. So by the time the back gets to point C it is going slower than the front was. It evens out.
