basicly it puts all your files in the correct order. therefore your computer is nice and tidy and it works faster.

should i defrag so it places the most recently used/modified data on the outer most tracks?
i think thats the fastest part of the disk or am i wrong :?

Defragmenting takes all the pieces of a file and puts them next to each other on your hard disk. It allows for quicker access to files since the computer doesn't have to search the whole harddrive in multiple places for the file.

Diskeeper is an awesome program for this FYI. Costs some money, but well worth it. My comp has run better than ever since I installed it after my last reformat and my harddrive has run much cooler than it used to (have a laptop).
