Hi guys, just getting a new laptop. how is this one in your opinions?

it seems like a pretty good deal but are you buying a new one for gaming or to just update your computer? If you want a gaming laptop and if you have more money to spend, put together your own laptop and buy a video card with it.

If you're going to game, you build a desktop. If you're going to use it for school, minor gaming (eg: anything that isn't an FPS), entertainment; get a laptop.

You don't build laptops, you buy them. They're always packed with tons of manufacturer shit that needs to be cleared, and half the time you can't clear it all because there's required software for your touch screen/fingerprint reader/voice recognition/etc.etc.etc.

When it comes to laptop it's about price vs performance, while steering clear of dell/acer/e-machine. Buying a laptop is like buying a minivan, just pick whatever you can afford. When you buy a racing car you have to get more serious with options and tweak it quite a bit - and unless you have thousands of dollars to spend, you're not a real gamer (and won't need a full blown desktop).

edit: i'm still amazed at the ignorance posted above. If you're going to buy a "gaming" machine, you can't do it on a laptop. Even if you could pack in the same hardware as a desktop, you wouldn't be able to have a real gaming rig without buying a USB keyboard and a seperate monitor, and basically having a desktop setup with a laptop instead of a bulky tower.

By gaming, you mean play SRO right? Because if you mean play Crysis at 100FPS, you're just fooling yourself.

@blackfalcon: Anyone can game. A gaming rig is something closer to a F1 racer, and were talking about kids that want to race their stock civics against their friends. Anyone can race, but you're not going to race against F1 cars in your honda laptop.

It's more than enough, and you're not looking for a gaming laptop - you're looking for a good price/performance laptop. That one is fine.

100 frames per second. If SRO and other kRPG type games are all you are going to play, you can do decently with the above posted if you keep graphics settings low and what not.

only thing bothering me about that laptop you're looking at is the small
screen and the fact that they don't name the gfx card. i'm used to my
17" screen now, and all that's smaller bothers me o.o

you don't need a gaming computer to play games. From shitty games like SRO to even to games like crysis a good laptop should be able to run them both, Maybe not at 100FPS on Perfect quality but i wouldn't call that gaming, i'd call that much-to-much.

I hate it when people say theres no such thing as a gaming laptop because gaming suddenly means "Running Crysis at 100FPS at maximum quality" and thats not really representative of even half of the modern games available. If your lappy can run Crysis at medium settings you can probably handle just about every other game on the market so what does that make your laptop then, huh, a gaming laptop, but thats not possible remember....see where im going with this. You can game quite successfully without running everything at the max, it doesn't have to be a Deus-Ex Machina

Gaming has a special designation because any new laptop/desktop can run games on atleast low-medium settings. Otherwise, there would be no need for it. Gaming, the designation, is different than the verb or use.

well it was for $950 but it's on sale for 800 at Fry's (store name) so awesome for me

i was actually about to get a dell for about $1300 when i saw the ad lol, almost gave me a heart attack
