Gay marriage ban overturned in California

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in striking down the ban.
Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as the news spread.
Jeanie Rizzo, one of the plaintiffs, called Pali Cooper, her partner of 19 years, and asked, "Pali, will you marry me?"
"This is a very historic day. This is just such freedom for us," Rizzo said. "This is a message that says all of us are entitled to human dignity."
In the Castro, historically a center of the gay community in San Francisco, Tim Oviatt started crying while watching the news on TV.
"I've been waiting for this all my life," he said. "This is a life-affirming moment."
The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted the monthlong wedding march that took place when Mayor Gavin Newsom opened the doors of City Hall to same-sex marriages.
"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody - not just in the state of California, but throughout the country - will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.
This court decision makes California the second US state to legalize gay marriage which before this decision had domestic partnership for same-sex couples. This was an interesting topic in one of my classes not only because this is happening in my state because we've been working on this issue. Feel free to discuss this or the issue of gay marriage.

Either way, no, California already had a bad rep for being the homosexual state, now it is really living up to that.

Gay marrage has been allowed here for a few years no (Nova Scotia, Canada). When it first happened a lot of people came lol

i didn't know the ban had been approved in Cali. The last i read there were many ppl fighting it and the governor even said he wouldn't support it. Still 4-3 is kinda close. I don't live in Cali but hopefully i'll be going there for college, don't really believe in marriage either though but its nice that theres 2 states now were we can get married if we wanted to. Some people have been waiting a long time for something like this, maybe other states will lighten up. I know here in Pennsylvania the congress basically killed a bill that would outlaw same-sex marriages/civil unions but i still think thats a bit of a way from legalizing marriage here....

Since the Supreme Court left this power to the states, I still see this as a problem since a gay couple can be married in California but not in Missouri or whatever state.
I am glad I don't live in Cali though...even though the weather seems nicer.

I've never understood what makes people go/be gay.
Why would you want to marry a guy and guy or girl and girl?
I just find it crazy and dumb....non gay marriage is the way to go

Gay marriage is the way to go if you've had enough puppet ass to get bored of one sex and eventaully change directions(or you just had a brain damage from the start
