Herrow.. I'm currently lookin to buy a new monitor and really i got no clue what to look for. If anyone has any models that are good i'd be really interested to see all of your oppinions.

So, what im basically looking for is a monitor that:
- Runs high resolution (Rooughly 1920x1200)
- Preferrably a larger screen (19-24")
- Has an avg/good Response time, Hz and PPI etc.

If i was to say a price range i'd be guessing $400US. Obviously a cheaper monitor is gonna attract me more =]

I'm wondering what the benefits of widescreen are? Is it worth it if i want this monitor for gaming?

What are the key areas to look for considering this monitors primary use will be for gaming?

Thanks for any help guys.

saumsung builds some of the best computer monitors. Widescreen is THE only way to go for gaming, at this point in time standard 4:3 aspect ratio is obsolete. If you want a high res 1920x200 then buy a 24 inch samsung lcd. Make sure you have a good graphics card tho, u need a good one to run modern games at that res. Otherwise a 22 inch is very good as well with a 1680x1050 res it still looks crisp

I (L) samsung so much. My 22 inch samsung has a piano gloss finish on it and it gives apple a run for their money - not to mention amazing quality only backed up by amazing software.

I've had this 19" CRT monitor from Packard Bell for around 2/3 years now.

Not a SINGLE problem ever since i got it :)

Upgrading to a 19" + TFT tho somewhere next month.

As for Samsung - Great brand :D

Just thought I should add - I also have an LG 19' and viewsonic 17' widescreen - I thought they were good quality or atleast ok, but you don't really know until you have something really good to compare them too. So, don't be fooled and think it's a plastic screen projecting light, there is a huge difference in quality.

It really matters what your using your computer for, 4:3 is still pretty good for games. you can run into problems when using wide screens on older games. most things on the internet are still optimized for 4:3 (SRF is last time i checked). if your doing work wide screen works well since you can have many windows open and still work. i've only ran into problems using wide screens (my mom's is messed up).

AFAIK, 24" monitors are what u are looking for if you want 1920x1200...

17 and 19" will only go up to 1280x1024 or 1440x900 for widescreen...

You could look into getting a dell LCD. basically the only DELL branded thing i will buy =D

You need to L2Use computer. For old games you can set your monitor to not go wide, or display the resolution without stretching it to full screen. The only time i've had to do anything like that is for 1.6 because the highest it supports is 1440x900.

the problem for setting it like that is you have a lot of black space (annoying)
