It's only in the US I believe, it stands for "Advanced Placement", but it's not really any harder than the normal class, just more homework and stuff.

The fact that you can have ~30 credits removed from your workload? Maybe it is cost effective as well...$84 test vs $700 class. The AP courses trim down the need for your core classes during your freshman and sophomore years, so you can start working towards your major sooner.

Fun times. US History is a bitch. The letters DBQ still give me nightmares...

AP's are only worth it if you think your good enough to pass and not all college accept the credits. If your smart then go for it but if you think your going to just get free college courses YAY! then you'll be in for a rude awakening, especially when all those extra hours of work only get you a 1 or a 2...
Also i wouldn't take AP in anything other than History, Bio, Physics, Calc, or Chemistry. Most of the other subjects are just a cakewalk and colleges know that so don't expect to wow them with your 4 in statistics....BTW History is statically recorded as the test most students have trouble with....

AP is overrated, and it's the reason i dropped out school. (to much unnecessary work)

I got elective credits for all of my AP tests. 2 semesters worth of credits. The calc one is good for testing out of math courses (Straight to calc 3).
If I had chosen a major like Psychology or something without lots of required classes, I could've easily double majored or graduated early. The credits help either way with registering for classes as well, since at least at USC, you get to register earlier the more credits you have.
Plus it looks better to colleges. The tests aren't too hard if you're good at taking standardized tests.
Some of em are a joke, but some are trickier than they appear. I got a 4 on Gov't because they were very, very specific about what was needed in each essay and I didn't quite hit everything I needed to.
Stats on the other hand was a friggin joke. In class on a practice test, I got 38/40 on the multiple choice.

I only suggest that taking AP classes is worth it if you have good study habits, and if your dedicated to passing the the test. I have heard from lots that AP is a killer.. too much studying, too little time for other things.

AP Tests sound to me as my Sector Exam...
I have followed Health Class(well, nt how you know it, it has got like, cooking, cleaning, conversating and other stuff in it, and it is supposed if you want to like, become hairdresser, chef, cleaner, apotacary assistant, receptionist, that kind of stuff...) and I've got an exam about it coming up May 14th..
But I'm well prepared, we only have to take a short multiple question test, and for the rest one cooking thing, and a lot of things on the computer like, making a PowerPoint presentation, a flyer, a poster or anything like that on the computer..
