i need help buying a new hard drive. mine got totally screwed after some insanely weird virus. i'm not completely computer illiterate but there are some stuff i dont understand. like my hard drive is 3 yrs old now its a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200gb model ST3200822AS they are discontinued so i guess i cant buy the same one. it is a Serial ATA-150 meaning its a SATA 1.5. I am planning on buying a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250310AS 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s. obviously there is a difference between the 1.5 i got and the 3.0 that i want to buy. something about a jumper. i dont know how to hook it up onto my pc. the 1.5 that i have doesnt have a little small jumper rubber thingy so i dont know how to hook the 3.0 up to it without the jumper. do i buy the jumper separately or will it come with the 3.0 :S pls help?

I'm not sure, but if it's sata 3.0, the connectors might not match up properly...hopefully you got it from newegg, they have a rad return policy

Honestly never seen a retail HDD come without a jumper...and ive bought around 30 or them so far. Less its OEM then it probably wont, depends how it was shipped. Far as i know the 3.0 and 1.5 are backwards compat. so if the board only supports 1.5 the HDD will fall back to 1.5. But it also depends on the controller, most newer ones will.

Well if its retail then it should come with at least one jumper. I know Seagate use to ship 2, one on the drive and one for backup.

Just noticed my sata drive doesn't have a jumper and its working just fine.. weird
If all else fails just make ur own jumper, get a wire and connect the two pins with it..

In theory is should, all a jumper does is let 2 pins connect, thats why you can turn your computer on with a flat head screwdriver by touching your motherboard to 2 pins.
