XP / Linux OS

So I have Vista now and I hate it.
I was thinking about reformatting and dual booting XP and Ubuntu Linux.
Well...sort of dual booting. Linux would be my main OS, and then there's a program which allows me to boot up XP on top of Linux. So essentially, I have the Linux and XP task bars. Functionality of both OS'.
My computer can handle this easily, but I was wondering what you guys think of this / would recommend.
So...?
Comments, suggestions, anything?

Why do you hate vista, it can do anything xp can, the only change really is the interface.

It doesn't feel right to me.
I don't know how to explain it, but something about it feels weird.

I'd just stay with xp, it gets to be a pain in the neck when your trying to download a file and there isn't a linux file available.

Use XP. Its the most stable OS out there, the most widely used, and the easiest to work with.

Vista basic is the crappy one I think. I like premium personally. It seems like it just runs and looks smoother. Not sure how vista ultimate is though, don't know anyone with it.

Just a curious question to the ones who hate Vista...have any of you actually spent time on Vista long enough to learn it? Not that bad, you guys are acting like these bugs are new...XP had its share. Vista wont support some hold hardware...and LIVE! cards are cheap, why the hell did you pay $200...

no.
Everybody is just saying it sucks because they all like sitting on the bandwagon. None of us has actually tried Vista.

no, it really sucks..as of right now. I honestly think you'd be stupid to get vista, even if your computer can handle it, because theres so many bugs and other stuff to fix, I'm planning on getting it later when more people start using it and when it gets better. microsoft says that its perfectly compatible with everything xp. not.

Ive got no more problems with vista than i had with xp. Infact, im having less problems. People complain it uses more resources. Well, if i leave everything as default it uses 700mb of ram and about 1% of the cpu when idle. If i strip a load of crap that isnt really need that much i can easily get it down to 300-400mb. You can probably get less with a bit more in depth tinkering.
The only major problem ive had with vista so far which ive never had in xp is linux. Trying to dual boot ubuntu = farked up vista. I hear they fixed the problem that i had with the newer versions of ubuntu but i cant really be bothered now. When i had ubuntu i was constantly using wine to run windows programs anyway.
EDIT: i was orignally gonna duel boot vista and xp like you mentioned earlier because everyone was like "zomg! its so crap, theres so many bugs! ahhhhhh!" then i used it and it was fine
Maybe i just got lucky and had a hardware/software setup that managed to dodge all these bugs everyone else seems to be getting?
ANOTHER EDIT: hmmm, this topic wasnt really about vista was it! oh well!

It sort of was about Vista.
In the sense that I have used it for a while now, hate it, and want a new OS.
My dad has a program that he uses in Linux to run Windows.
I'll check what it is later and then post it here to give you all a better understanding of what I'm talking about doing.
Oh, and is it true that Linux is less resource intensive than XP and Vista?

VMware? Or some sort of virtual machine.
Yes, for the most part, Linux is less resource intensive. Try running Windows XP on an original Pentium...I had two Ubuntu machines in my basement, one running on a Celeron 600 with 512 megs, one on a P3-500 with 256 megs.
Depends on whether you want all the bells n' whistles. You should try running compiz or beryl in Linux, you can do some really cool things with your desktop. BUT those are definitely more resource intensive...
Of course it does require a good PC with OpenGL (Kind of like DirectX, but opensource)

For the most part, Buffalo wifi works ok in Linux, although I heard that Ubuntu (newest version) has put in a few more wifi drivers. I tried a Linksys and a Dlink with no luck on Breezy Badger but Feisty Fawn (7.04) should be better.
Oh, and Compiz and Beryl rock - there's one distro that I experimented with that had built-in Compiz or something - Oh...Enlightenment (E-live) Linux. Give that one a shot for the cool effects.

SO to follow up on my other post.
My dad has Ubuntu and uses a program called VirtualBox to boot up Windows.
I'm seriously thinking about that.
What do you all say?

Here's a tip, make sure it is Vista compatible before you buy.

Well the good news is that SRO runs with this set up.
So I'm going to do that.
Linux with VirtualBox to boot up XP if I need to.
