How can you be scared of needles if you dont feel any pain at all.

If you dont look at it, you wont know if they finished or not..at least for me..

You can either ask your parents or look at your birth certificate or your driver's license.

O+
The reason O+ can donate to almost anyone is that it's too common. If your parents were, let's say O+ and A- you'll most likely be A-, but you can still recieve O+ blood if you need a transfer.

O-

BTW it's the universal one that can be transferred to anyone, but a person with O- can only recieve O-

I've never donated blood and not sure why. I think I will someday

I am A+ afaik.

O- can give blood to all
AB+ can get blood from all

Explanation

Bloodtype A means that your bloodcells have antigen A on their surface.
Bloodtype B means that your bloodcells have antigen B on their surface.
Bloodtype AB means that your bloodcells have antigens A and B on their surface.
Bloodtype O means that your bloodcells have no antigens on their surface.

Your body tends to have antibodies against the antigens your blood doesn't have.

Thus A has antibodies against antigen B
B has antibodies against antigen A
AB has no antibodies
O has antiebodies against antigen A and B.

If antibodies and the corresponding antigens "meet" the blood will agglutinate (from lumps iirc)because antibodies want to get rid of the weird antigens.

Thus in theory only complete matches can receive blood from each other.
A from A, B from B,.....

But
1) Normally only red bloodcells are transferred and the other junk is left out. Thus you wouldn't get strange antibodies in you. Thus one has to check if your body hasn't antibodies vs the antigens you receive and ignore the possible antibodies from the donor.

Thus O can give to A (O has no antigens > antibodies won't attack the O-blood. The anti antigenA antibodies from O aren't transfused).

2) If full blood (blood that doesn't only have red blood cell) get donated, then there still wouldn't be a problem caused by the antibodies of the donor blood due to a relative high dilution)

Almost there.

About + and -.

People who are + have the Rhesus antigen on the surface of their bloodcells.
People who are - don't have it.
But - people don't have antibodies against the antigen until they are exposed to it.

Thus problems will only start until a second transfusion with + blood to a - person.
Or something complicated with - mothers who get a 2nd +baby.

As before + can get it from - because
*no antibodies in - blood
*antibodies in - blood who aren't transfused
*dilution.

I hope I got everything correct. It's been a while since I saw this in a boring course of mine.

PS this is a simplified version. IIRC there are other systems besides the ABO and +/- system.

Last I asked I was -B but don't hold it to me I'm not to positive. I do know my mother was O- I remember because would constantly tell me how rare it is.

AB+, all your bloods are belong to me...

Giving blood takes maybe 30 minutes max (spend as much time filling out paperwork as you do with a needle in you)., doesn't hurt at all and you're helping others. If you're O-, then you really should be giving blood since yours is universally helpful. I'm not a huge fan of needles either, but do it once and you notice how it doesn't really bother you. Things that scare you shitless are usually mostly harmless or never going to happen to you, man (or woman) up and take it on. That said, don't just go into some sketchy looking van at a blood drive. Red Cross is probably your best bet.
