Alright so i set up a PayPal account a while ago, confirmed with my bank account and everything. I wanted to purchase something off a site using the PayPal option, but it said "Add a Credit or Debit Card to Complete Purchase". The PayPal is linked with my bank which has more then enough money on it, but no money on my actual PayPal account. I was told that you don't need to have currency on the PayPal account to make purchases, and that it takes the money right off your bank account. SO do i in fact have to add currency to my PayPal account to make teh purchase, and if so how do i do this?

um i have used paypal dozens of time but have never added any money to it. Make sure to add your credit card/debit card. It will withdraw the money directly from it.
So when it says 'add a credit or debit card'..you need one. There's no way around it i think.

I got my mum to transfer 100$ so I could buy silk without having to pester her over a year ago. But, as I don't have a bank account in the US, and I can't apply for the credit card as I don't have a SSN, there is no way for me to use it

1) If you guys are having issues, why not just make a new account with the proper info and transfer it to that account? Unless you dispute yourself the funds will not be overturned.
2) Paying with no funds in paypal account only works if you have a credit card linked as well, because they use that as insurance incase your bank account balance isn't great enough to cover the expenses.

My mum sent it over. Seems you don't have to be verified to accept money, just to spend it.
@dom
If I use a credit card for a purchase, would it use money out of my account balance first?

Regarding Huejas post.
PayPal has gone extra emo lately since word got out that they blocked Ron Paul's accounts and made more than 30,000 $ inaccessible .. or something around that number.
Since then it's very hard to tamper with PayPal, and even harder if your new to get started.
I would say try calling the hot line, but that's like speaking Russian in Vietnam.

depends on the seller, I bought a lot of stuff before I was verified when I only got money from paypal from webdesign (I was udner 18 at the time)
Also, when I buy stuff it just says pay with paypal, and then an option screen comes up and I don't remember what it says, but something about from my debit account and insured by credit card.

Oh yeah, I forgot the last part: 2 weeks 10 business days TO TRANSFER FUNDS TO THE ACCOUNT, like 2-3 days to verify it
