It was a famous speech MLK made a little over 60 years ago when he spoke about his want and conviction that in the future, colored and white would live together in peace, as opposed to the ongoing oppression at the time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_have_a_dream

How about Ms. South Carolina's lil speech, then? So full of inspiration on what lays ahead for our brilliant country.

Agreed with fena, I have a dream is a very powerful speech. I liked John F. Kennedy's speech as well.

I don't like speeches, I'd rather think for myself.
(Not saying speeches are brainwashing, but yeah, I don't like 'em.)

I like the James Carter thing though... Rush Hour 1 and 2 were badass. 3 was meh.

whats sad is that americans just teach that he had a dream. People are forgetting what he meant. Interestingly, teachers all go spastick to praise MLK in Janurary but I've never had to read or interpret MLK's speech in school, which should be something that is required.

American Studies at Senior High for me. Combines English 3 AP and US History AP. We analyze quite a bit of MLK's works as part of our curriculum.

darn, I said it wrong, im sure most high schools have you read MLK's speech. What I think is wrong is that they don't have you read the speech before high school.

Its supposed to be a special day, but the elementary and middle school teachers in our district just talk about his dream speech and congratulate him and pretty soon one gives a shit cause ther so sick of the same stuff every year. Not to mention that I had to watch the same MLK cartoon video every year from 1st grade to 5th grade

didn't we have a discussion before about you blowing off your SAT scores cause you got a full ride to college? I don't get how taking AP classes is being an overachiever, AP classes just make your college application so much better. I take AP stat and I think its perfectly normal that I take it.

I would say a speech I heard in Germany in the 30's that was really inspiring, but the whole anti antisemitism thing and all sort of ruined it.

Good speakers are the root of all suffering ^^ Great warriors are the cause of all evil.

Im perfectly fine with my 3.5 GPA and 1890 SAT score... and yea...recruits FTW.
But getting into college is a joke tbh... You can take all regular classes or CP and you'll get into most decent colleges... They especially look at your extracurricular activities.

Howard Beal wrote:I don't have to tell you things are bad -- everybody knows things are bad. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth... banks are going bust... shop-keepers keep a gun under the counter... punks are running wild on the street and there's nobody anywhere that seems to know what to do. And there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe, our food is unfit to eat... we sit watching our T.V.s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes -- as if that's the way it's supposed to be!

We know things are bad; worse than bad. They're crazy! It's like everything, everywhere is going crazy. So, we don't go out anymore; we sit in the house and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller and we say: Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms... let me have my toaster and my T.V. and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything -- just leave us alone.

But I'm not gonna leave you alone... I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest and I don't want you to riot or write your Congressman, because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians or the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad... you've got to say: I'm a human being -- Goddamn it -- my life has value!

I want you to get up now, I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up, right now, and go to the window -- open it and stick your head out and yell: I'M AS MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE! Things have got to change! You've got to get mad... you've got to SAY: I'M AS MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE! Then, we'll figure out what to do...

@redneck lol Pennstate and Colegate is a huge step down from Stanford most credible reviews and polls (cept US News) say its better than Harvard or Princeton...hell i could walk into penn state now if i wanted too....

are you going because of athletic scholarship? You do know that you must be very very oustanding. Anyone out here want to be a super athlethic star? Keep it mind to you other hoepfuls that attempting to get into college by depending solely on an athletic scholarship would make you nothing but a retard. Unless like redneck with great swimming records or something else, better colleges dont give a shit about you if you earned 3 varsity letters and your gpa is poo.
