Lucky Day.

So, i get a call from my mum not to long ago, and she said: "you won't believe what has just happened to us". So, im curious of course, and ask what? She said that she was on her way home, and would explain when she arrives.

So of course, i sat here. Curious. What could have happened? Meh, ill find out soon enough. So. On i go with my daily life, about 30 minutes later i hear the door open, so of course i get up straight away to see what the big deal was. So, from the corridor i see: My mum walk in carrying a parcel, my mum's friend walk in carrying another similar parcel, my maid walk in carrying a box, my driver walk in carrying a bigger box, and then one of the receptionists from downstairs walk in carrying a slim, but wide black box.

The sight of this pretty much stops me in my tracks, and i let out a good WTF?

I walk over to the living room, see the 3 boxes on the floor, next to the two parcels, and i'm like. Whats going on? My mum and her friend are in slight hysteria, probably from the look on my face, and are trying to get out words, in between laughter attacks. Me on the other hand, i remain motionless with that dazed look on my face.

I look at them both, laughing when suddenly my mum's friend gets interrupted by a phone call, so she goes back to normal-ish. Whilst my mum walks to the kitchen to get herself a glass of water, whilst doing so manages to get out: "This all started because of a bottle". Which made my expressing go from a simple dazed look, to an even more WTF?

Finally after the drink of water, my mum regains her composure and proceeds in telling me the story, of the series of events which have just conspired.

Apparently she had gone to a nearby mall, because her friend wanted to buy some new couches, so on their way up. One of those people who stand near the escalators offered them a free bottle of appliance washer, when they kindly refused, but said on the way down maybe. They proceeded looking around at the possible couches, finally ending up with my mum's friend choosing the couches which she was to purchase. Then they began their descent on the escalator.

When they passed the advertiser near the the escalator, he once again offered them a bottle of appliance washer, which they accepted this time, however as they walked away he persisted that they take a look at the store, once again in a polite manner they refused, however he insested, once again they refused and began walking away, when he ran infront of them and handed my mum and her friend a free lucky draw ticket, and said why don't you just try. So, enjoying the moment my mum and her friend decided to give it a try, as they had nothing to loose. However, there was a trick.

If you were to participate in the lucky draw, you had to purchase something. Thus, my mum being the witty one which she is, simply bought another bottle of appliance cleaner. Her friend on the other hand, did see something she liked, and bought herself an Air Purifier (my guess is that as she is renovating her house, she does not want dust in her already renovated room). Thus, with their purchases in hand, they proceeded in trying the lucky draw.

My mum's friend reached in first, and pulled out a ticket which read: Sorry, better luck next time so she simply smiled, and gave way for my mother to try. She reached in and pulled out a ticket which read: One Extra Try. So after showing it to the staff, allowed her to reach in again and try again. She then pulled out a ticket which read: AW-55ICO. She, confused with the numbers showed this to the lucky draw staff, and asked what is this?

The entire staff let our a huge applause and shouted congratulations, my mum taken away by what had happen was really confused and at that time herself had that dazed look in her face. When one of the managers came up to her and explained that she had won an "Induction Cooker" and took her over to see it, she was quite pleased with herself and started to smile. Her friend congratulated, and they went to collect the Cooker.

After filling out a small receipt, they were told that the staff was about to open up the boxes of their newly won, and purchased items to check for a bonus. As they opened my mum's Cooker, they found that there was nothing in there. However, when they opened her friend's Air purifier, there was a small envelope in there. She asked, what is that? When once again, the staff let out a huge applause and shouted congratulations.

Then they proceeded in telling her that she had won a 15 Piece set of new stainless steel cooking pans. However, the main reason that they had let out that cheer is because in a set of 1000 units of that Air Purifier there was only 1 bonus envelope. Now, they both were pleased with themselves and smiling. She then jokingly said that with all this new stuff, she needed to purchase that bottle of appliance cleaner, and so she did.

As they left the store, they were once again thanked, and congratulated. At all times, smiling.

Now, the funny part:
-The bottle of appliance cleaner cost them Rp50,000 ($5), thus multiplied by two, their total comes to Rp100,000 ($10).
-The Air Purifier cost my mum's friend Rp350,000 ($35).

-The Induction cooker, had a store value of Rp8,000,000 ($800)
-The 15 Piece Pan Set, had a store value of Rp4,750,000 ($475)

Which means that they purchased Rp450,000 ($45) worth of items, for Rp12,750,000 ($1,275) worth of prizes.

Plus of course, that little free bottle of appliance cleaner, which started it all of

True story, no lie

+1

Lefties cry about social justice in Western countries, when you visit "other" places you come to realize out poor are well off. It isn't expensive to hire a driver when he'll work for almost anything.
