Starcraft 2 and other RTS
Starcraft 2 and other RTS
I love RTS's, in fact, they are my favorite PC genre to play. As many of you might already know, Starcraft 2 was announced back in May of '07. I think it will be fun, even though it looks like a rehash of classic Starcraft. Another RTS that has control over my life is Dawn of War. I am a Warhammer 40k tabletop player, so Dawn of War was a must have for me.
Do any of you other SRF'ers play RTS, or are your souls imprisoned by the MMORPG devil?
http://www.starcraft2.com/ if anyone hasnt been to their home site.

the Age of Empires series are my favorite (age of mythologie counted too)
then i also have Tzar (not very famous but nice) and civilization: call to power. i have starcraft but i turned out not liking it alot. it was kinda hard to control and the scroll speed was insane.

I love Starcraft. I still play it on the weekends when I have time with enthusiasm (US East).
I'm sure Shadowman's a Starcraft addict as well.
However, while I'm certainly looking forward to Starcraft II (more than any other game ever) - and as long overdue as it may be - I'm not too sure I'll be a big fan of the entire 3D concept. I like Starcraft fine as it is. Quite honestly, I'd much rather prefer all the new units that Starcraft II with have, with Starcraft graphics. The graphics have never bothered me. The gameplay is fantastic.
And I love RTS. It's a bit more like a FPS on the basis that you're usually constantly having fun. Not like most MMORPGs where you spend hours and hours mindlessly grinding. And besides, like the acronym RTS implies, the strategy part of it is fantastic.
Simply, Starcraft is love.

Total annihilation - one of my favorite games of the late 90s. arguably the best RTS ever.
Also played Cannon Fodder alot in the mid 90s which is kind of similar to an RTS i guess
then in 2001 red alert 2 came along. Played that a bit and now i own all of the command and conquer games and expansions. Dont play them much anymore though
i never even got round to finishing the campaign on command and conquer 3.
not really that hyped about RTS games anymore though.

If you liked Total Annihilation, then you might like Supreme Commander. Its made by the same guy, and has the same gameplay.
I remember the good old days of Red Alert and Red Alert 2. Thats where I started, then moved on to Starcraft (Protoss ftw).
Right now though, I am waiting for Dawn of War: Soulstorm, the next expansion to the Dawn of War series. 9 playable races in an RTS.

WIC is more of a RTT (Real Time Tactical) than a RTS, since it leaves out some major parts that makes a RTS

SC2's battlecruisers will kick major ass especially against multiple ground units and Blizzard brings war of the worlds to SC2 with the new Colossus units. Zerg's new units hasn't been previewed but their zerglings now have the ability to turn into suicide bombs. SC2 has ALOT of hype. Despite how oldSC1 is, I say nothing beats Starcraft. I'm gonna miss doing reaver drops though.
I 100% agree with fena on this. I don't see any point to removing any units from the game, but we'll see for ourselves once we play it.

Oh, I have played that a lot.
My fav is Age of Empires 2 though. Played AoE 1 and 3 too. Empire Earth was soo fun too.
I miss the old RTS games. All the new ones like AoE4 (or is it 5?) and Empire Earth 2 was just disappointments.

I'm currently playing C&C3 : Tiberium Wars. It's enjoyable so far, and much more appealing than how laggy SRO has been during this last week.

I really liked Empire Earth, played it alot but I kinda lost the CD. I really liked playing the Dark and Middle Ages.
I still play Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom every now and then.
Even though I like playing those kind of games, I'm not really good at them, I usually run out of sources or I can't complete the objectives in time; Free Game is mode I usually play on.

Finally someone who's played EE. :>
I liked Middle Ages too although I most often played Copper Age or some prehestoric age. The modern ages didn't do it for me though.
What makes EE so good is the balance of everything. I've had many good times LAN'ing EE.

I like DoW too XD
Finally a DoW fan
One of these days. All the RTS loving SRF'ers should have a big battle roayal on an RTS, maybe SC2 or something. GEt on Vent or Teamspeak, how awesome would that be?
